September 3, 200322 yr Hi all,I just started working on small update for "minibrowser". It will add a small addressbar and few nice menus. ;)Stay cool.
September 3, 200322 yr I just added some new functionality and appearance to my VPN template. You can now browse your computer - no more exiting FS to start your favorite add-on.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/34916.jpgI also updated a few of the quick links and and added a quick search form for airport/nav data.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/34918.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/34917.jpgI'll keep updated the file as I find new things. I think I'm very close to being able to customize the size, appearance, and location of the kneeboard browser as well.Download it at http://129.123.17.148/acropolis/vpn.zip (8KB). Just unzip to your aircraft folder.-Smitty

September 3, 200322 yr Author Hi all, today I came across something that might just be VEEEERY interesting.Long story short:Our "electronic kneeboard" is in fact... a web browser! Many already have noticed that the aircraft reference and checklist files now are in html format, the same that websites are programmed in. Now I asked myself what would happen if I put a web link into one of these files - and guess what? The website will open right inside that electronic kneeboard window! As the function of displaying the keyboard shortcuts within the electronic kneeboard is absolutely useless and wasted space to me, I exchanged the file "kneeboard_keys.htm" inside the AIRCRAFT folder with a page I built myself that contains a link to an online weather service. Now when inside the aircraft I call up the kneeboard, click on the A button and, tadaa, can enter an ICAO code, click on search and a second later the actual METAR report shows up on my kneeboard screen. To good to be true?Want to test it out?Download the attachment and unzip the file to your AIRCRAFT folder so that the original kneeboard_keys.htm is replaced by the new one (you may want to make a backup of that file first). Then stay online, fire up FS2004 and check out the new kneeboard function!I could think of a million ways to utilize this, like watch your friend on the webcam while flying together on multiplayer, or receive up-to-date weather information and procedures from your controllers whan flying online!Check satelite images while enroute, download flights with procedures from your controller, load them as a new IFR flight plan, or just chat or listen to that webradio while cruising on FL390 - it's up to you how you utilize the web functions of your electronic kneeboard!-------------------MeatWaterProfessional Audio 4 Entertainmentwww.meatwater.comhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/34771.zip -------------------- Nick Schreger MeatWater
September 3, 200322 yr Simply fabulous! Thanks so much-a must have!http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/Geofdog2.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
September 3, 200322 yr Smitty,One small suggestion you. This looks top notch however with the way messages are written in the forum here at Avsim, this one will eventually get taken off the front page and moved to page 2 then 3, etc.. as people post other messages. Could you in the future upload it to the Avsim library with maybe a small readme file with the current verion number and new changes? That way in say 3 months from now, people wanting it can go right to the library instead of having to search for this message thread. Many thanks for the work on this! Eric
September 3, 200322 yr Its a nice little function but I dont get all the fuss really. How can it be easier/better/fancier to access one's computer and HD thru the sim then using regular explorer and having the sim not pausing while in background. You would get a full view instead of a little boxed version.Maybe alot of good things could come from using IE inside it - but also remember all the bad things as well could come. Think javascript errors leading to crashes of not only the browser, but maybe also the whole sim. This seems more to be a curiosity in my eyes really but still a nice find ;)My $0.02 :)
September 3, 200322 yr Author No need for that, it's all HERE:www.vpncentral.ch.vuI am building the page as I type this, and it will be updated frequently!-------------------MeatWaterProfessional Audio 4 Entertainmentwww.meatwater.com -------------------- Nick Schreger MeatWater
September 3, 200322 yr Not sure what you mean....I can run the sim in full screen, not have the sim pause, and pull up radar data, approach plates etc. like I would with a multifunction display with uplink capability. Sure I could alt/enter/open explorer-click favorites, load a web page, run fs in a small window-but this is much more elegant -and frankly realistic-like having a linked mx20 in the cockpit. Now calling up an approach plate while nearing the destination airport, or getting a live weather view is easy-without getting in the way of the flying experience.Flying live Fairbanks weather with a live radar plot-then checking plate (click below):http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/34921.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/34929.jpghttp://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/Geofdog2.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
