MD-11 FMC Questions

Featured Replies

Hi:Hi, I was flying my MD-11 PMDG on FSX, using the FMC (Onboard computer), anyways, i was flying the approach, from KLAX to KLAS, and so for some reason, once the planes gets to a way point it just switch the altitude automatically to the altitude i have set on the dashboard (not sure what it is called), also i have pressed the "PROF" button (not sure what its for), would that be the reason? After the 1st time i press that PROF button, the plane just totally ignores all other commands, like if i set the altitute from 6000feet to 2000feet, the FMC still sets all waypoints at 6000feet. Also, how do i set the approach runway so i will get the ILS frequency, i tried pressing the destination airport, but the STAR option never shows up. any ideas? Thanks.

Ok, beat me for this answer but: Please read the manuals. A complex plane needs so time, so don't worry if you don't get it on the first few attempts but some reading on this plane is more than recommended. In my package a tutorial was included and as this bird is commonly used in the flight sim world, Google will help you on finding more of those. There also is a dedicated and official PMDG section around Avsim and there might be some more learning stuff on their site too.As this plane surely was a big investment for you (for me it was), some time spent is really worth it and the manuals are well done on it (lacking of some "confidential" performance data of course).

The ILS is Auto tuned on the RADNAV page, as long as you have your approach setup correctly it's all automatic. As CooIP has stated you cant jump in and fly this aircraft. You need to study, it's a extremely complex simulation but very rewarding once you get to grips with it.At least start with the basic tutorials and head over to the PMDG forums, you will find a good bunch of guy's that will help with the learning process.BTW, PROF (Profile) is the same as VNAV on Boeings or MANAGED NAVIGATION on the Airbushttp://forum.avsim.net/forum/353-pmdg-md-11/Regards

Questions about commercial addons should be directed at the provider's forums. Flex gave you a link and there you will find support.

Let me add that PMDG have a GREAT tutorial for this bird too. Easy to follow and informative... :(

Could possibly the pre-programmed approach route into or out of the the airport. Check airport charts

Yep, you can't expect to be able to fly a high quality, extremely detailed add-on,like the PMDG MD-11, without looking at the manuals.Guessing won't work. The manuals are your first port of call, rather than asking us. :( Ask us, or in the MD-11 forum, "after " you have read the manuals, tried the tutorial, and still have problems.

If you're asking what PROF is, you haven't read the manuals or tutorial flights - please do so. tongue.gif
