TrackIR:Clip Pro

Featured Replies

Well I finally got TrackIR 5 recently. The recent beta release of DCS A-10C made me do it since I'm all out of hats to use for views. Right now I'm using the hat clip (actually placed on my headset instead of a hat). However, I do find that the vertical/pitch axis range seems quite limited compared to the yaw/rotation axis. In particular I find that after looking up about 10-15 degrees the camera looses track of the hat clip. Looking down does not seem to have the same range limits and it works wonderfully looking left and right. I have tried placing the hat clip on...well, a hat. I ended up with the same results. So, I don't think it's because I have this unconventionally clipped on top of my headset. So my question is how does the headset clip help things? I do use a headset and I find the idea of a hat to be cumbersome (I find the brim blocks the view at extremes). Is there any better range of detection with this? Would it improve my vertical/pitch range problem? The hat clip is perfectly smooth, it's just easy for it to be lost by the camera when I look up. Also, I do know that I can change the scaling of the axes in the TrackIR program and am also working with this. However, if I can get better equipment, I'd like to try that as well.

HelloI have used both, for the first few years (TRir3-TRir4) I used the hat clip and actually found the LED clip to be slightly slower. Now I am using V5 and find the LED clip to be working just as well with the added advantage of having a greater range of detection on account of the caps brim not getting in the way.I always wear a headset so with the LED clip it is nice not having to wear a cap in the summer months. After breaking three of the LED clips I have now fitted a hook underneath my desk to hang the headset from when not in use, they are not the strongest of items. If someone stole the LED clip I could live quite easily with the reflector. It might be low tech but even I cannot manage to break one

I'm sort of in the same boat regarding the TrackClip Pro. I've had two of them, and managed to break them both. It's not that I'm all that rough on my gear, but things happen and the biggest flaw of the TC Pro is how spindly and fragile it is. I'm back to using my original metal clip with a cap. Sure, I'd rather not wear a cap when I sim, but it beats continually busting up $40 worth of hardware. The little metal clip is nigh on indestructible, and I'm not seeing much if any change in the way it tracks.

I tried my track clip pro once, and have never bothered with it since. It doesnt work as good as the vector clip.It not only requires a usb port, but also leaves you with wires hanging off of your face, which get snagged on stuff everytime you move your head.I really wish I had just paid for the regular bundle without the "track clip pro" because the thing is cheap and worthless. And yes my clip did break during its one use as well.

Track clip pro works a lot better for me than the hatclip did (I have a big window behind me and a bright light on the ceiling that interfere with the hatclip a lot) But its very very very delicate, and the item was broken during shipping, as it was not in any protective packaging and was just taped to a piece of cardboard and after a close inspection it is made rather cheaply and would not survive a soft-medium knock during normal usage as its like wearing moose antlers I ended up fixing it myself with a nozzle off a caulking gun and some gaffa tapeThe item is way to expensive for what it is and I would never buy it again had I known, if the manufacturer does decide to update the construction methods I may reconsider my feelings

I echo what has been said. The clip is an expensive addition but is poorly made. It's not worth the money. Mine lasted for some time but one drop was all it took. I now use the more robust metal reflector. Anyone remember the first version? - a spot stuck to our forehead. The latest version is a huge improvement.I am pondering ways of repairing the clip, as I do think it is more efficient. Also, a cap is an encumberance when wearing a headset.Frank

I have used the TIR 4 and vector clip for years. Honestly, wearing a cap and headset is fine. After a while you forget you're wearing them.

Haha! LOL.gif Yeah, I'd forgotton about that. I'll stick with the metal reflective doohickey. Mine is fixed to my earphone headband and I have another one attached to a girl's hair keeper backer thing (In masculine black of course) for when I use speakers.Hearing how delicate the LED ones are convinced me not to go buy one. It was close though! :(

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll just stick with the hat clip. Doesn't sound like the headset clip adds too much and is awfully delicate for how expensive it is.

Hi MeatyThat's briliant. Truly good lateral thinking. I hadn't got past wedging it with two bits of broken matchstick. But your idea will take some beating. Frank

Hmmm... now you've got me thinking. I'll have to pull out one of mine from the TrackClip Pro boneyard and give that a go.

No worrys, glad to inspire some! The main trick with the caulking gun nozzle is that it is slightly cone shaped which once taped up holds the 'antler' from popping out...yet still allowing circular movementIt did take some trimming and tweaking with a packing knife to get a good fit, and now its stronger than the original designCheersTim
