PSS/POSKY 777: Not dead yet!

Featured Replies

How often did I say "we do not have a quality 777 for FS". I can't count the times I said that. And I believed it, too. Sure, I knew about the PSS777 and read reviews about it. However, knowing the age of the product, I thought it wasn't really worth looking at. And sure, I did know of the merge with the POSKY 777. I had read about it, and at one point I had installed the POSKY 777 to see what the VC was all about. And still, I didn't take the step to buy the PSS 777, for two reasons:- I wasn't gonna pay 40 euros for such an old release;- It seemed to hard to do the merge and get a good model for the plane. But then Justflight had a sale for the PSS777, reducing its cost by about 60%. I ran to their website and bought the PSS 777, then merged it rather easily with the POSKY 777. And now? I am a very happy man. I have completed a flight from KBOS (FlyTampa KBOS v3 scenery) to EHAM (NL2000 + Aerosoft EHAM), and wow. I am perplexed by the level of enjoyment I got out of this plane. Certainly with the sounds I downloaded for the 777 from Avsim's file library, I have a 777 I can live with very happily. Not evertything was perfect. I do not have updated navdata, because I want to wait a bit (I like to have the same navdata across all my addons; I am sort of waiting for FSBuild to get new navdata, but I have been thinking of getting FSCommander 9). Also, for some reason the route was a bit finicky. I ahd to enter in KBOS and EHAM manually into the route. LDS767 and PMDG 747 always did that automatically. And for the rest, I made some mistakes in the operation of the plane because I'm not very familiar with it yet. However, the rest was great. The plane flies very reliably and the A/P and A/T work very well (although I was a but taken aback when the A/P climbed with 7000ft/min at one point...). The model and VC are of course beautiful, and the systems merge very well with all of it. And, something that I absolutely require: I can save the flight, reload it, and continue where I saved the flight earlier! And what's more, this works absolutely flawlessly. As a matter of fact, I have never seen the saving/reloading of the panel go so fast and smoothly as with the PSS777. Even the the LDS767 has problems that the PSS777 just doesn't seem to have (sometimes, I lose one engine on the LDS767 upon relaoding a flight. I then have to get out of it entirely, and restart from the "select a flight" menu). In short, I am extremely pleased. I always thought we had no good 777 for FS, but I now think we do have one. I am no 777 pilot, and so many details probably don't work as they should, but you know what? I don't care. It flies. it flies well. It does what I want to do. That's enough for me. I am extremely pleased. Time to plan the flight back to KBOS! Big%20Grin.gif And boy, does NL2000's night scenery complement the experience. Unbelievable how beautiful the approach was! I'll be putting screenshots on facebook. If anybody is interested, I'll provide a link here so you cna check it out. EDIT: One question, perhaps somebody knows: is there a way to make it so that the overhead cna be called up by a shift+... button press? For example, if I would like to have it called up by shift+9, what would I have to change in the panel.cfg? It really pains me that I have to get into 2D panel view before I can look at the overhead and I'd rather stay in VC mod, calling up the overhead in that view directly without constantly shifting views.

Click the upper part of the centerpost.BTW each subpanel can be opened with clicking a hidden spot.Or just activate the Panel Switcher from the Setup panel's Setup/Misc menu.

Hi Benjamin,From the VC, you can not switch directly to the 2D overhead. That's because the 2D overhead panel was designed as a 2D "fixed windows" and can be called by pressing "Keypad 5" from 2D main panel.I've tried to move it into the ordinary panel "window", but It did not work.Regards.

From the VC, you can not switch directly to the 2D overhead.
Ah, right, a VC flyer. I have missed the fact in Benjamin's post, sorry. :blush:OK, so the first thing that comes to my head is why do you need a 2D overhead panel when you are in the VC. Is anything not clickable in the VC one (I don't know, I've never tried)? But if you still do want to get it, it's easy. Open the panel.cfg and exchange your overhead's window number with another window you don't need so much (e.g. the Clock).Just make sure you change it from fixed to normal. Something like this:[Window Titles]Window00=Main PanelWindow01=Main Panel ZOOMWindow02=Centre PedestalWindow03=Display Select PanelWindow04=FMCWindow05=RadiosWindow06=OVERHEADWindow07=Setup.....etc......Plus change the window data, like this:[Window06]Background_color=16,16,16 size_mm=1024,768position=7visible=0ident=37render_3d_window=0nomenu=0window_size= 1.000, 1.000window_pos= 0.000, 0.000gauge00=PSS-B777!Overhead, 0,0,1024Change the Clock's window number into a higher one or just cut it off if you don't use it (I don't).Of course first make a safe backup of your original panel.cfg in case you spoil something on your way.Nice flying!

Rafal, this is a merge between the original PSS 777 and POSKY 777. While the screens can be imported into the VC, the rest cannot. So no, the overhead does not work in the VC. If it had worked, I wouldn't have asked for help on this front... I figured changing the fixed window to a normal window would do the job, but I didn't try it, fearing I would break something.twasono: that's sad... I wish keypad 5 was an option, but sadly I have no keypad. I guess I'll try what Rafal suggests and see if that works. Otherwise, I'll make do without. Now, the interesting thing is that when I posted about the greatness of the LDS767, I got lots of responses concurring with that view. Now ziltch. I'm wondering why? What do people think of the PSS777/POSKY777 merge?

I also bought the 777 professional (improved PSS) in the JustFlight super sale some weeks ago and tried the PSS-Posky merge (with the impressive American OneWorld livery). I can only say this merge gives a great product.Things I miss:1.- Lack of copilot calls (V1, Rotate, positive climb, gear up, etc)2.- When applying manual thrust, you do not get an indication (in the EICAS N1 arc) of the final N1 that you will reach (you have to wait for the engine spool and see). In PMDG-737 or LD-767 that precise indication is available, being very easy the manual thrust handling.

I've been tempted to give this a try for a while, I bought the PSS 777 when it was first released but only used it for a few day's. Is the merge really that good? Just a few questions -1. Can you use the MCP, EFIS etc in the Virtual cockpit?2. Is it still possible to undock the FMC and EICAS to other monitors.3. Are the systems, HYD, Electrical etc actually integrated into the model?I'm thinking it may be a good using it to study for the PMDG 777Thanks

Rob: 1) No. many of the switches (if not all) do not work from the VC, so most of the actual flying will be done from 2D panels (which is why I would have liked to have a pop-up overhead).2) I wouldn't know that, sorry...3) What do you mean by "integrated"? All the systems work, so if you have the hydraulics off for exmaple, you have no engine start. Drooping control surfaces I think you don't have (if that's what you mean), but I'm not sure. I didn't look at it, to be honest. I'm actually not even sure that the POSKY777 had it, since it's basically a very good model with the default 777 panel. The merge takes out the default panel and replaces it with the PSS 777 panel.Judging by your questions, there already apparently is an entire range of things that seem to be important for other people that aren't really important for me... The merge puts the PSS777 panel into the model, and you can get the displays into the VC too. However, it does not go much further than that. For me that's enough to enjoy the plane. Gathering that I paid only 13 euros for it, it's a mighty good aircraft. So Flex, I can only recommend you to simply reinstall, merge, and see for yourself. Merging doesn't take that long, and if you wish you may PM me for help. People across the board have made the merging a very easy thing. You only need to know where to move folders to in order to get it working.

Benjamin, you may look at my site and try my airfile edit for al normal takeoff, AND decent.

Thanks, but I already have an airfile that seems good to me... I don't anyway know how the real thing is supposed to fly so I doubt another airfile will be of use. If you recommended it because of the 7000ft/minute, well, I understand why it did that. I was going way faster than I should have, so the plane got the nose up to counter the speeding. Basically it's what its supposed to do, but this was a bit extreme. If I pay more attention to the speed of my plane, I'm quite sure I can easily avoid it.Thanks anyway, though wink.gif

Hey Benjamin, try this merge out: http://singaporevirtualairlines.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=68&Itemid=70. It is made from real world info for the Boeing 777-200ER. The info is from real world Air New Zealand and so this is probably as close as you're gonna get for accuracy on this merge and for a Boeing 777-200ER for FS9.Tell me how it performs here :(

Erm...I am very grateful for all the help and such, but it wasn't the point of this thread. I am very happy with my merge and I don't need or want it to be changed. For as far as I'm concerned, the only way the plane could be improved is by having a fully interactive VC, which will only happen when somebody makes a completely new 777 package. The actual point of this thread was actually to praise the efforts of both the PSS and POSKY teams, which, when combined, give a very good 777. I am happy with what I got, guys... I don't want to change it. It works and so I don't want to start meddling with it (I can only break it!).So again, I appreciate the help offered, but it isn't necessary. So Boeingsta, I'm sorry but if you want to know how it performs, you'll have to try it out yourself... I'm done with meddling. I'm flying this bird and am very happy doing so. (Even if I had tried it out, what could I say? I have no idea how the real plane handles, so whether it is very accurate or not I can't judge and I doubt the difference is going to be very big between the FDE I have and the one you mentioned. The FDE I have is indeed also based on actual numbers). But please don't think I'm ungrateful. I am grateful. I mean, it rarely happens that one is offered help without asking for it. It only shows how the FS community isn't near any sort of doomsday prediction that I started to believe in after seeing the amount of complaining growing and growing. We still have a big amount of decent people that actually want to help.

Boeingsta,Thanks for the link and idea. After reading this thread, I thought I would pull my T7 out of retirement and give it another chance. The download "*REQUIRES PSS777 PACKAGE WITH SERVICE PACK 2 INSTALLED." Does anyone remember if I have to install SP1 first, or does SP2 cover both? It's been awhile and I don't remember (I'll write it down this time). I do remember the headaches associated with trying to fly this plane which resulted in it's early retirement. Thanks,Mike Franks

Yea, i am using this merge, I compiled the package :(. It works fine for me, but off course it is your choice, I am not offended :(

Hey, um, i think you should just install both, get em here: http://www.justflight.com/faqs.asp?drdProduct=44. If you have an original copy that you bought then it'll be no problem. No pain in installing both-downloads are free and the files aren't too big so you should give them both a go. Hope it helps.Boeingsta.

Not to be a thread hog, but can someone direct me to the best PSS/POSKY Merges?I need 200ER, 300ER, 200LR and 200LRF.Would be much appreciated! Been looking everywhere.
