Lights in FSX to bright - What's wrong

Featured Replies

Any idea what's going on here and what change should be made. Running Windows 7-64 FSX- UTX, GEX, REXcapturewd.pngUploaded with ImageShack.us

Personally, I think it looks pretty cool.If I were to venture a guess, I would probably have to say that UTX is responsible for this so I would mess around with its settings to see if it fixes it. I personally don't own UTX, so I can't help too much in this department, but from what I see, this was supposed to happen.

This happened to me before and I posted the problem. Someone offered a solution that worked, think it had to do with the cfg file. I can't recall what it was and I can't locate the original message I posted.

This isn't a problem, it's the way UT is designed. It's the 3D lights it uses to simulate street lights. IMHO, I think it looks good. You can turn them off though within UT's settings if you don't want them. Being 3D objects, they will affect performance as well, so you may want to turn them off for that reason as well.

Thanks

I did follow the tuning guide in setting up UTX initially. As far as it looking cool... I don't think it looks realistic. The VASI on approach, is distracting and blends together. What setting in UTX changes this. It's not just street lighting because the VASI lights are this way too.

You can change the VASI lights by adding these lines to the display section of your fsx.cfg and playing around with them. Generaly settings between 0.8 and 1.2 seem to be OK dependingon what youare tryingto achieve.RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=1.2//scales edge, center, end, touchdown, runways RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=1.2// scales VASI lightsRUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=1.2// scales approach light bars RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=1.2//scales RAILs and ODALsIAN

If you fly over a built up area at night and there is little cloud cover, it actually is very bright. Check these pictures of London at night from the air:http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/08/london_from_above_at_night.htmlAl

Gotta go with Chock. Your "problem" to me seems to take the sim a little closer to reality. I know that's not the point of your post, though. Good luck "fixing" it!

I use these to great effect. the other question is, do you still use the default Halo.bmp file in your texture folder. Sometimes scenery add-ons replace this Halo file and lights also look awefull. I have also replaced the default Halo.bmp file with a much better representation of lights as default really suck big time.!! problem it is always a personal thing and what one like is no good for another. If you want you can PM me and I can send you a number of different halo files as i have experimented quite a bit with these.

If you use REX, you can change the look and size of the lights. The program, IMHO, is worth the money just for the lighting enhancement feature.

Here's a couple more shots of what I'm seeing in a larger representation.I tried adjusting the cfg file for runway lights and that made a small differenceDropped brightness of street lights in UTX from 50% to 25% and still no differenceThe comment about the Halo.bmp file rings a bell from what fixed it before. Further suggestion on what to do here might be of help.sna01.jpgsna02.jpgUploaded with ImageShack.usUploaded with ImageShack.us

I think you pretty much have the solution here. you just have to apply it. Send me your email and I can send you replacement HALO and you can see if it make difference or not. backup your halo file and you can always restore. Easy as that. You can only win. Nothing to loose..!
