January 6, 201115 yr Moderator musician?? I didn't know thatI play the bongo drums, I need to look him upHe is a professional concert violinst, currently under contract with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He holds The Devereaux Family Chair as Principal of the Second Strings. Here is a link to his bio:http://www.detroitsymphony.com/page.aspx?page_id=324Acting independently of the DSO, apparently the musicians have organized a tour to earn some income during the ongoing strike. When (if?) my current battle with carpal tunnel syndrome ends, Geof and I have briefly discussed the possibility of playing together. I am (was?) a concert organist. :( Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

January 7, 201115 yr He is a professional concert violinst, currently under contract with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. ... apparently the musicians have organized a tour to earn some income during the ongoing strike.i wish him luck in contract negotiations. unions have a bad reputations ... and the US worker doesn't seem to be getting any wiser and banding together as the rich get richer. average worker making <$40K and loosing bennefits. CEO making $150 million and buying fifth home, second plane ...my uncle is a violinst. he has been with the dallas symphony for 40 years.-- D. January 7, 201115 yr wow! that is even more freakyBefore I got my first pair of bongos, I used to play the Double Bass in the Florida West Coast Symphony (now the Sarasota Orchestra) back in the mid to upper 80's under the direction of Paul Wolfe. then I hung it up for a "career" in computers, wow, I think I made the wrong decision there... I haven't touched my bass in....20 some years I guess. Ciao!

January 7, 201115 yr Moderator I am (was?) a concert organist. You need to play more Bach to loosen those fingers!!!Wink!!Peter Sydney AustraliaOf course, Peter. I put (was?) because right now I'm barely able to type, or use a mouse (which makes my development work glacially slow!), much less tickle the 176 keys on my Conn Artiste console...Carpal tunnel syndrome on my right hand, and a loose bit of bone in my left wrist are to blame. I have to wear two custom-fitted braces when not using the computer.I spent a couple of lovely hours today at the Jesse Brown VA Hospital in Chicago allowing two nice doctors shoot voltage along my nerves, and stick pins in me: Nerve Conduction Study. How delightful that was! :LMAO:The two doctors were fascinated with my right hand because of all the trauma it's suffered over the years. When I was twelve, the flush handle on a toilet broke and darn near severed my thumb. Back in 1978 three fingers were amputated by an unruly patient and had to be surgically reattached. During the thirteen hour operation, the surgeon managed to "cross-wire" some nerves, which caused "commands" to my middle finger and little finger to be inverted. That sure made playing difficult, not to mention my ability to properly render the three-finger salute... :( I've had to cut my practice time down to about one hour per day for now... :(my uncle is a violinst. he has been with the dallas symphony for 40 years. That's awesome!
