Fly The Maddog Professional 2010 Edition

Featured Replies

I picked this up and while the concept is good as are the reviews (the reasson I bought it by the way) I can't get a vc to work and the 2d has only the front paneel. I best mention here there were a couple of times I got the VC to work. I have followed instructions in the manual, researched this in assorted forums and followed instructions there.....but just can't get it to work. Others don't seem to have this problem. Thus, I've parked it and wasted $50 +/-.Dissapointing.

Have you activated the virtual cockpit in the configuration manager? It is disabled by default.maddog.jpg

Theres a full set of 2d panels covering pretty much every switch and button in the cockpit. If you state what exactly the problem is and what you have done so far im sure that you will be given help and the situation will be rectified.

As was said, you have to check the VC box for the VC to appear. Also, make sure that it is saved! You MUST press OK for the setup of the current aircraft to be saved. If you switch aircraft in the setup tab, all settings you changed for the previous aircraft won't be saved.

In the Aircraft.cfg file you need to make sure that it shows "model=VC" under each livery. Otherwise the Virtual Cockpit will not show.

Also :- Each addon texture file should contain all of the LeoMD82_vc_xxx.bmp files: if they are not there – cut and paste them from the texture.MDG file. You will also most likely need to create a thumbnail.jpg for the new livery to appear in the FSX aircraft selection window. and... DX10 Preview (if using it) must be disabled.

Hi!I am considering buying Fly The Maddog Professional 2010 Edition. I am enjoying my PMDG J41, but I feel like flying a bigger jet sometimes. I know PMDG 737 ngx is coming soon (it's been coming soon for quite a while now...) and I will probably get a copy of it when it comes out. Anyone has any experience with the Maddog in FSX? I see that FS2Crew has a version for it and TSS also has a sound package. Anyone?
If you want to know what FS2Crew is like with the Maddog, just go onto YouTube and type "FS2Crew Maddog".There are quite a few user created videos there, and they can give you a sense of how the Maddog and FS2Crew work.I will say this though: The Maddog is a very complex simulation. It's definitely more for the enthusiast crowd.Cheers,

Just adding my two cents here, and I don't want to start the Shared Cockpit debate. The small group I've been flying with for a few years (mostly older guys like myself) purchased the Maddog 2010 Professional because we wanted to add Shared Cockpit to our VATSIM flights. It took some time to get things figured out, as we had to put our thinking caps on here and there to figure out a few things that weren't documented in the manual or written about in the forums or at least weren't easy to find. It took about 3 weeks of solid effort and trial and error (we're old and slow, but thorough), but we managed to get Shared Cockpit working TERRIFICALLY. Virtually no lag, no loss of sync between computers, etc. Our VATSIM flights allow both Pilot and Copilot to communicate with ATC, and when either pilot changes radio frequencies they change for both, making the cockpit workload and duties even more realistic for us.IT takes a while to learn how to operate this superbly modeled aircraft, and it takes a real effort to learn the proper settings and what ports to forward as they're not REALLY documented besides one or two ports. The manual, and forum posts give you some of the info, but as I said we've managed to find some things that aren't in either, and now that we've worked it out, well, it blows me away. I especially like the Weather Radar (yeah, I know), and LOVE the Terrain Avoidance Radar and the Map modes (which ARE accurate) and which have not impacted our frame rates (at least not noticeably). Shoot, we even have a guy running this software (2D cockpit only, the rest of us fly VC) with a 1.7Ghz Pentium 4 processor with 3gb of ram and no video card save for the emulator on the motherboard. Don't ask me how, but I've seen his system on remote desktop, and I've made numerous shared cockpit flights with him, so it's true. Granted, his FSX settings are tweaked and turned down to nothing, but he CAN do it. The rest of us have rather new computers (i7 processors), and frame rates for the Maddog VC are not an issue whatsoever.Couple of quick things for Shared Cockpit. The FSX version was written for good ole SimConnect, so to reduce and/or eliminate lag between computers you should forward port 6112 (SimConnect). Of course you should also forward the port range of 268678 through 26869, and use port 26869 in the Load Manager Setup window instead of 26867 (it makes a difference, and as a former network guy I don't know why, but I can't argue with our trial and error testing, it DOES make a difference and that's all I'm going to say about it, cause I know how much computer guys love to argue... lol).We enjoy the Maddog very much, and like a lot of folks we were frustrated that so much seems to have been left out of the manuals. But the work they did on the aircraft itself is hard to argue with, and the 2010 Professional version is really something. For anyone who's having difficulty with the Maddog, the best advice is to use the Maddog forums and talk to other pilots. Be forewarned that the development team has never answered a single post or email of mine, but the pilots in the forums are terrific and spot on. That is something I am TREMENDOUSLY IMPRESSED with by PMDG, their support is first rate. For the record, the support from Level-D is also very good, providing you take the time to search their forums before asking a question (like we all should).Last word on Shared Cockpit, but PLEASE remember that I'm not trying, and do not wish to enter into a debate (I think the only guys who like to debate and/or argue about things more than computer guys are computer flight sim guys! LOL!!!).Whether or not Shared Cockpit is marketable and worth the effort is, in my very humble opinion, a "Chicken or the Egg" type thing (knowing how much Ryan loves chicken, I'm betting I just made him hungry). The Maddog is (again, my opinion) the only Addon Aircraft for FSX that is able to fully support Shared Cockpit, but the aircraft itself is not widely marketed AND takes a lot of effort to learn to fly. Add that shared cockpit setup is not documented very well, and you have a perfect setup tor guys go get frustrated and quit working on it. One other thing is that many who try multiplayer (different than Shared Skies or Shared Cockpit) via GameSpy quickly get turned off due to the free for all that often takes place on that server, and even if they didn't, Shared Skies wasn't really marketed after the initial release of FSX, which in of itself was marketed to a group who historically flew single cockpit. My point is this, it's all about the marketing. After the release of the NGX, it would be nice to have the option to PURCHASE an addon that would make Shared Cockpit available to those who would like to use it. If marketed well, it could very well change the online flight simulator world. Now I could be wrong about all of this, but allow me to add this. I fly on VATSIM, and the number of controllers that I come across who don't even know what Shared Cockpit is (we know, because we constantly get PM'd by controllers who don't understand why the copilot is showing up in Observer Mode), and given that most controllers have years of experience flying as die hard Flight Simmers, I have to believe it's about the marketing. The questions we sometimes get from controllers about Shared Cockpit (You can do that? I didn't know you could do that, how do you do that? Where can I do that?) tells me that Shared Cockpit was more or less left up to Word of Mouth advertising.FS2CREW is terrific, no doubt about it. But given a choice, I'd rather fly with a human copilot. It makes head calls on VATSIM a lot easier too! Thanks for reading. At the very least I hope I've provided a little food (chicken, or eggs) for thought.Have a blessed day enjoying this wonder hobby.Dave Hodges
