I know people will jump on me again for saying this, as they did when I said Flight textures in pic 5 were blurry; Look at the top two pics of simmerhead's post that indeed shows Flight textures (look at the farm textures that are identical in both versions) are really blurry comparing to FSX shot.

I think the blurryness is just a result of poor image processing (either by the original author, or compression done by Silverlight). My guess is that the original raw screenshots would be as sharp as my comparative screenshots.

Maybe Microsoft should be using Adobe Flash instead of their own Silverlight.:Thinking:Regards, Mike Mann

I have no problem with some of the old textures being used (the good ones, anyway) just as long as they are used in the appropriate locations. As for the blurries, keep in mind that Flight is in early development, so this may also be a reason we see this problem. The scenery engine is probably not done, so the texture loading code may still have a few bugs to be worked out that are causing the blurriness, but that's likely to be solved before the release.

Me neither. Some of the landclass textures in FSX are very good, but compared to what independent freeware developers make, this is one area where I want to see huge improvements, especially the colouring. Example of home made custom landclass textures:

We don't need screenshots from FS5. Apart from Meigs airfield, the graphics in FS5 were the worst ever seen in a flight simulator. So, imagine looking at a horrible, shimmering mess of badly textured garbage. That's what FS5 looked like.

Yet when I look at how FS5 compares to FS1, which was the first game I had bought for my Apple II computer, it looks fantastic. Fast forward a couple of decades and people will refer to Microsoft Flight (assuming it gets released) the way you do about FS5.Regards, Mike Mann

I understand that, Mike. However, my point is that....as soon as I had seen FS5's terrible graphics, I immediately wanted to switch back to the clean, uncluttered look of FS4. It may not have had textures, but (IMO) no textures at all is better than an ugly mess.

Looking at the changes made from one generation to the next, I would have to say that the most significant progress was achieved in FS2002. Just my opinion of coarse!Regards, Mike Mann

Yep, 2002 was a big leap indeed! Let's hope Flight is to FSX what FS2002 was to FS2000...

Now that Microsoft has published four more screenshots, I will do comparisons of them in FSX as well....should be soon.

OK, I have done a comparison of screenshot 1 and will do 2 next, but I honestly no clue on the locations of shots 2 and 3. :(

Brandon Filer

Yeah, I'd be surprised if anyone finds the location of nr 2, especially since the mesh and landclass textures are radically different from FSX. I'll try installing Megascenery X Hawaii and see if that makes the search a little easier. The other three should be easy, no?
