November 14, 200322 yr Just wondering - won't get a chance to install her until next week. Hard on the fps? [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
November 14, 200322 yr FPS are good but the GNS530 is basically trash. Its refresh rate is about once every 15mins!! In other words it went from being fluid in 2002 to useless in 2004.
November 14, 200322 yr Hmmm, harsh words...Refresh rate and display resolution of the GNS530 can be set in the *.ini file.
November 14, 200322 yr The frame rates are excellent for me. I have found there to be a vast improvement over the FS2002 version. I flew it last night and my frames never droped below 15fps. Although studies have shown that frame rates are not a good way to judge performance. I was only at 15 for a very short period. I averaged 23fps. This is a terrific addon, well worth the wait. Here are some pics I posted....http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/MAL_1.JPGhttp://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/MAL_2.JPGhttp://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/MAL_3.JPGhttp://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/MAL_6.JPG
November 14, 200322 yr I do not know how you came up with that assessment... on my system, the Meridian is nice and steady at 25 fps and the GNS is fine, using the standard 400ms refresh setting.Sorry if it is not working well for you, but that comment is harsh indeed. Suggest you have a good hard look at your system to determine what is going wrong.. Bert

November 14, 200322 yr That's good news. I've pretty much made up my mind that this is a "must purchase" addon. I already own the reality xp GNS530, which performs admirably, and can't imagine that the meridian's would be debilitated in some way in comparison... November 14, 200322 yr good choice but be aware that the installation will cause you some problems. I have posted on their site but it appears to have been removed. You are required to modify the .ini file yourself (this is not explained in the instructions) to eliminate an item (again, which we dont know what it does, thus its impact). Also, there is an issue with the configuration manager in that a file was not included (or somthing like that) - however there is a pinned remark on their forum concerning this.Good package but the installer routines were obviously not fully tested or they have uploaded an incomplete version.again, worth getting, just be aware. November 14, 200322 yr Good to know. Anyone else have this problem? What exactly needs to be modified in the ini? [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
November 14, 200322 yr You can choose the level of detail in the GPS display from coarse to finein balance with the kind of system you have.. this is set in the ini file and explained in the instructions..If you have a problem selecting the Meridian at start up, go to the default Cessna, 2d panel, and select the Meridian from there. It does not like to be selected in VC mode.. Bert
November 14, 200322 yr Oh yeah - same as other reality xp gauges. I thought it was a modification of an ini in order to get installed properly. Thanks for the info.sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
November 14, 200322 yr Hi Bert, yes, it does not like it. Here is a good reason:http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum/DC...D21/9250.html#7Hope this helps!
November 15, 200322 yr I downloaded the updater, but then decided to download the full 2004-compatible installer because I didn't understand the upgate instructions. The full installer worked fine.I did have one serious crash right after the install, which managed to reset my fs9.cfg (grr! but I had a backup), but today I did a flight from SJC to MRY with an ILS into MRY approach using the GNS530 and the Meggitt stuff. It all worked very well. I'm very happy to see that a lot of the avionics are now keystroke-controllable, (albeit only ctrl-shift ones - I need more!), and I've already set up the GNS530 to work with my hardware in the same way I have the standalone RealityXP one set up.I'm not quite as happy with framerates as some others apparently are - I upgraded my system from an Athlon 1700XP to a P2.4C while waiting for the update - but I may need to re-tweak some of my display settings after the .cfg loss. There is no question that this is a very high-load aircraft for average and above-average PC configurations.BTW I have two LCD displays on my system - one AGP and one PCI. I moved the PFD and the MFD "pop up" instruments to my PCI display and they are as smooth as glass - the Reality XP approach to smooth instruments is not over-hyped IMO.Dave Blevins System: Asus P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3 mobo *** i7 2700K @ 5gHz w/ Corsair H80 cooler NVidia GTX 570 OC *** 8 GB 1600 Corsair Vengeance DRAM *** CoolerMaster HAF X case System overclocked and tuned for FSX by fs-gs.com Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog stick/throttle & CH Products Pro Pedals Various GoFlight panels *** PFC avionics stack
