March 14, 201115 yr Commercial Member ... and yet here you are ... on an FSX based thread. So it would seem that X-plane is a great sim ... with no content .. otherwise Xplane users would be flying their sim, rather than requesting FSX developers to convert their projects.I have all PMDG products up to and including the 747-400 for FSX and FS9. For that reason alone, I'm entitled to be here.I have FS9, FSX AND X Plane.I'm certainly not holding a gun to anyones head and telling them to come over to X Plane. That's up to them. I have an open mind about things. That's why I fly BOTH sims.
March 14, 201115 yr I don't necessarily think this is the forum to discuss such, but at the same time, it is where the information is being asked. I don't disagree with people's perceptions of what x-plane has been...and until V10 comes out and proves different, those statements are true for those folks. As one who is in the midst of V10 development and also a flight sim enthusiast, I can say with confidence that V10 is heads and shoulders above any previous version of x-plane, introducing vastly new features and possibilities. Of course it's lip service until V10 ships...I'll grant that, but for those that think it's a one-man show and laminar is resting on their laurels, well they're just plain wrong. As far as PMDG or any other big developer moving to x-plane, it would be very difficult to fund a port effort as the ROI would take a very long time....but there are already a team working on a 737-300 with infrastructure to move to a NGX later. While MSFS devs continue to cater to the MSFS market, native x-plane devs are very far along in their infrastructure. I think that the offerings from the top native developers will easily match the quality in simulation that FSs users enjoy, even though it may take a bit longer....that first serious airliner simulation needs to get done. As far as scenery goes...well, we're working to make it easy for anybody to build their own scenery quickly. Imagine opening an application, going to your airport.....dragging out scenery objects from an expandable library... like towers, hangars, forests, ramp equipment, jetways, create a terminal by drawing a outline or build your own custom ones if you fancy 3D......make your own tarmac layout, put down flood lights that actually light the tarmac....there's a lot coming.
March 15, 201115 yr Great post! Much more productive than calling the thread "hilarious" without offering any sort of explanation...I've always been excited to think about what XP10 will bring to the table, not to mention what sort of third party development will take place. I like the idea of an easy scenery designer. I'd prefer stock airports to look nice too but if it's a simple program I wouldn't mind creating my home airport - which happens to be KDLH - deserted in XP9, heck even in FS9 it's pretty deserted lol (which is why I fly FSX)...Serious simmers will continue using both sims and the guys that whine about which sim is better can either do some real flying or log time in a FTD etc :( | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

I also choose not to engage in debates with people who are caught up in the "FSX vs x plane" debate if they choose not to listen and see things with an open mind.. There is no point arguing with people who's minds are made up. Trying to point out the positives and negatives of both sims, particularly in a PMDG forum shows bad taste. There are other areas for that kind of discussion. I have had many private discussions with other FSX users in the private message section of the avsim forums. The reason I said it was a hilarious thread, is because it is being debated in a PMDG forum. I certainly wasn't directing my statement to any one individual. I do see some ignorance among the posts because it's obvious some people don't know much about X Plane. For example, it was said on page 1 that x plane is a 1 man show when it clearly isn't. Jim Skorna from ActiveSky fame thought there was only 1 default aircraft where in fact there are 52.As was mentioned earlier, people have asked for PMDG to come over to X Plane. Whether they do or not is entirely up to them. They have their reasons for whatever decision they make. I'll be the first to put my hand up and say they have achieved a huge amount of success and for x plane simmers asking them to come over tells me they are in extremely high demand. The quality of add ons has also been discussed. Mainly because people assume X Plane an easy platform to develop for when it could be in fact as challenging as the FSX SDK. Perhaps even more so as there are many engineering terms involved. It's not my intention to divert interest away from FSX in a PMDG thread. PMDG develop for the MSFS franchise. They have successfully done so for the past 6 or so years. I'm sure there is plenty of demand for the MSFS franchise yet before they even pontificate on whether or not to switch. If you or anyone else wishes to discuss x plane, I'm sure the PMDG guys would appreciate the discussions to be held elsewhere. For me, I prefer private chats so as to avoid any other conflicts.Like I said, I have every single add on for MSFS that PMDG have made up to and including the FSX 744. And definitely money well spent. All I ask, is to please not misinterpret what I posted with the "hilarious thread" remark. Arguing the positives of x plane in a PMDG thread is like ice skating uphill. Best

March 26, 201115 yr FSX or Xplane, we all have one sim or the other (or both) for the same reason, right? That is all. You have the bridge #1. :( Aviation gets me high!!! March 26, 201115 yr Hi,I accidently came across this thread while gathering info for something else. And I am going to steer well clear of FSX-v-XP comparisons. I fly and enjoy both immensely (XP being a fairly new addition to my PC).What I will say is with "mainstream" (as in FSX-related) dev houses like Carenado and Aerosoft jumping in the XP waters with the current v9.xx is a very positive sign. XP would greatly benefit from a PMDG-quality airliner. Heck the first dev to publish a dedicated custom FMS/AP popular procedural airliner would be huge (hint hint lol). XP does deserve a lot of credit. What I find fascinating and not usually noted is a large (possibly majority?) proportion of threads here at AVSIM and other FSX sites are related to performance and support issues and the opposite is generally the case at XP-related sites where the questions are more likely to deal with flight matters.Anyway-if PMDG decided to dip toes in the XP waters I would not be the only interested party with money to spend.Cheers for listening...happy flying!Ted AVSIM Staff ReviewerBush Is Good!
