Flight1 Releases Hundreds of UT/2004 AFCAD's

Once they are in the add-on folder, how do you get them to supercede other Afcad's that are in there. In other words, I have downloaded three Boston Afcads, but I am not convinced, when I open any of them and modify them, that the one that I choose becomes the default file. Any ideas?P4 2.81024 DDRAM800 Bus36 gig SATA hardrive80 gig harddriveATI Radeon 9700 ProCH yoke/pedalsElite Multi quadrant- serial19" inch monitor-Soundblaster PCI 512Win XPCommercial ASEL- Instrument 292 hoursAOPALawyerPilots Bar Association"Men without dreams are never free, twas thus this way and thus will ever be."

That is the problem. From what they are saying you can have problems if you have more than one afcad per airport. I'm not sure how everyone is going to manage all the 100's of afcads which are now available. I personally am keeping a database of all my afcad files I install to keep track of them. It is going to be very easy to lose track otherwise.

Any ideas?"Here's what I did: Go into Fs9's addon scenery folder and rename the scenery folder to scenerypai. Now run the new UT patch. Recompile and viola! If you are unhappy with UT afcads, delete the new scenery folder and rename scenerypai to scenery. recompile and all is as was.

For FS2K4 you are using I would suspect AFCAD2 files which would be in a bgl format now. There are some issues stated in the PAI AFCAD forum that you need to be aware of:1. NAVAIDS like ILS for now only work and can be editied from the stock file.2. Runway properties such as take-off/landing restriction appear only to be effective on parallel runways, and easch runway must have identical restrictions at each end...so the forum says. Therefore it appears that the AFCAD2 file with the lowest scenery index number (top of the list) takes priority and where common items exist would seem to exclude those of lower priority except for missing objects in the higher priority files such as the NAVAIDS problem I stated. In 2K2, I believe UT used AFCAD layering where the same airport had different AFCAD layouts and the layer number was added to that file's name. The flight plan for that particular airline designated on that layer was adjusted to use departure and destination airport names of that particular layer, such as KMSP, KMSP1, and so on.With the gate assignent system in FS2K4 that may no longer be necessary although I have not seen yet where an airline can state a preferred runway for parallel situations where it might choose the runway closest to its gates. So, in summary, it seems that layers can still be used where runway assignments may be of concern and therefore part of the AI flightplan, and even without layering, the same AFCAD2 filename can be used.I have just started to do this rather simply by hand, not having UT yet until the dust settles with FS2K4 and the SDKs are released for the developers. I only use about six AI airlines which I merged in FS2K2 andmoved the traffic file to FS2K4, and I used from the library an AFCAD2 file for KMSP exploring the issues.

I have to agree that this is getting to be a real problem with default and add-on scenery AFCAD2 files in FS9. I had to go through my list of FS9 addon scenery and make sure that I deleted any dup AFCAD files.I wish there had been a naming convention for AFCAD2 files that way there could be no duplication. For now, my only suggestion is to carefully keep track of these files, but what a hassle each time we install new scenery. Is there really a need to recompile?

One little word of warning...I wouldnt suggest using these if you do NOT have UT. Reason is that there appear to be many fewer flights in the MS default flightplans than in the Ultimate Traffic flights. So, when you go to an airport with dozens and dozens of gates (like these UT afcads create.) FS9 will try to stick all your AI flights at the first gates it comes to and you wind up with all your AI at one terminal and the rest of the place is a ghost town.I did this and KATL wound up with half the airport chockablock and the other half apparently closed! If you want your default AI spread around then you need fewer gates. These afcads do no harm, but they do cause all the AI to bunch upat the first gates they come to.Eric

UT or some other AI flightplans such as PAI...

>I did this and KATL wound up with half the airport chockablock>and the other half apparently closed! If you want your>default AI spread around then you need fewer gates. Isnt this just for people who havent put the atc_codes= section into the aircraft cfg section? Arent there parking codes made out in the UT AFCADS here?

I think that what is happening is that the default ai flights don't have parking codes, so they fill the gates in numerical order. Since there are few default ai flights, the first dozen or so gates get occupied, which all happen to be at one end of the terminal. Looks funny, that's all.

The UT Afcad files readme I think says specifically that they didnt address parking codes at all in their afcad files as far as airline assignments go. They claimed it would take too long to figure this out based on the number of flight plans they have.Eric

I have no desire to d/l any AFCAD files from the library, I will get them from PAI. too many things that can be changed including visual cues. I remember d/l AFCAD files for FS2002 and most were all wrong and messed up,, that is now I started to learn about afcad, fixing screwed up AFCADs!
