April 5, 201115 yr Hi. Short of using Photoshop, does anyone know if it is possible to change the colour of rivers & lakes in UT (FS9)? The turquoise-blue is a bit unrealistic in many contexts. I see no option (unlike FSX version), so I am assuming not? Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
April 5, 201115 yr Sorry cannot give an answer.I have Horizon VFR NL and UT Europe, attached is a screen shot off the coast of Holland, probably a compatibility problem.Got advice from Flight 1, as it is on another PC not had a chance to use the advice as yet. Just a question, have other forum members seen this before.
April 8, 201115 yr Hello,Try those murky :( water (inland):001b2wa1.bmp002b2wa1.bmp003b2wa1.bmphttp://www.multiupload.com/9E9YH81M2A(not my creation)Going in the FS2004 scenery\world\texture folderDon't forget to save the originals before overwrite !!Regards.Gus.
April 8, 201115 yr Anyone know what bitmaps give that blue colour? One way to fix this issue is just remove all rivers that use those unrealistic textures. You may say why remove them? Well,My answer is, nobody to this date has created textures that will replace them which appear realistic and another reason is no matter what they will never have motion or reflectness. So if you want to remove them, go into your terrain.cfg file and delete all river entries.I have even removed all the default roads .This increases frames and overall makes the sim appear more realistic. This is my answer to the problem :(
April 8, 201115 yr Hello, Well,My answer is, nobody to this date has created textures that will replace them which appear realistic and another reason is no matter what they will never have motion or reflectness. Murky waterRegards.Gus.
April 8, 201115 yr Hello,Murky waterRegards.Gus.Those files are not the river texures he is talking about.Yes, some textures for rivers can be corrected to look realistic but not streams or the small river files.
April 9, 201115 yr Hello, Those files are not the river texures he is talking aboutWell .. the example picture of the OP is not like a stream or a little river .. :( So I suppose his request is for what he swow us (rivers and lakes) :( Regards.Gus.
April 9, 201115 yr There's a thead about water textures in FS9 that you might want to have a look at. I don't think really realistic water is possible with the rendering engine FS (FS9 & FSX) uses. Rivers, canals & similar will never look the same as open sea from above, and water-modifying plug-ins are unlikely ever to be able to fix that (much as I'd like to be proved wrong). More realistic water can be simulated, but doing so would be a resource hog that FS hasn't room for, given the demands that the simulation already makes on the CPU.http://forum.avsim.net/topic/327789-what-do-you-think-about-these-water-textures/page__p__1934997__hl__water+grainy__fromsearch__1#entry1934997
April 9, 201115 yr REX does give you the choice of different inland water textures - and you can even mix the colors yourself to get the look you want. Not perfect perhaps, but a big improvement in my opinion. For me, REX has been a huge upgrade for FS9 along with UT and GE Pro.Ian
April 9, 201115 yr Author Thanks for the replies. I downloaded the replacement textures and will see how I get on with them. Not sure about deleting entries in the terrain.cfg file - though I do get problems with some roads, which appear as a string of dots until Fs9 'comes into focus'..M Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
April 9, 201115 yr Martin:Read through this post entirely - especially my first entry and all from GaryB. It's not for your water class but for your textures not waiting forever to come into focusThanks. Paul
April 9, 201115 yr Sorry Martin:This is the thread to reviewhttp://forum.avsim.net/topic/329728-possible-new-tweak-for-fs9/Thanks Paul
April 9, 201115 yr Author Paul,Hi. In another context, I have already read through this (and made changes to the terrain.cfg file), but that is to do with texture loading, no? Not quite sure how it relates to water bitmaps. Did you give the correct link?M, :-) Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
April 10, 201115 yr I did Martin. As stated my link I gave you was to help the textures likes roads etc that you mentioned don't become focused until you get close to them.It has nothing to do with the water textures.Thanks. Paul
