Featured Replies

Just wondering if Megascenery Earth areas are all seasons like their other megascenery products? Or is it just Summer? Thanks

I think since it's photoreal it will only be on season, no?

I'm not sure. MegaCity and MegaScenery products had all seasons and they are photreal.

No, one season only, summer.I made the HORRIBLE mistake of purchasing Mega Scenery Earth Washington state, I kind of jumped the gun and bought ALL tiles after buying only a few tiles in the imediate area around seattle which were pretty good. Thats how they suckered me in, the Seattle area is done quite well, runways line up properly with the ground imagery, no autogen mess, and the water masking wasn't half bad. But start venturing out into the rest of state and it's complete and utter useless garbage! Misaligned runways, autogen trees in the middle of runways like 3W5, absolutely disgusting water masking that looks from altitude like a child took a crayon and drew in the river and lake water masks. When you take all the horrible bugs the scenery comes with, and you couple that with horrific customer support and the disgustingly high price, I rate Mega Scenery Earth as one of the worst pieces of software I have ever purchased. I wouldn't wish it on my own worst enemy.Jocko

I've bought Las Vegas while it was at a discount and was really impressed. So I bought Hawaii as well and this is also very nice. Last but not least I bought the whole southern California scenery and I'm equally impressed with the runway placement etc... Once you are above 1500ft it starts to become very nice and above e.g. 5000ft not even Orbx comes close of course.

Yeah, MegaScenery products are quite nice, but they are a different line than MegaScenery Earth. I think I'll take Jocko's advice and stay away form it.

Agreed! All my MegaScenerys are great. I fly high, autogen setting low, water textures setting none.Peter Sydney AustraliaWin7Prof FSX 4 Core i7

It really depends on what you buy:MegaCityX packs are awesome. Great care was taken with those products. The colors look terrific, the images are at a good resolution, and all aligns very well with both default airports and hills/mountains. Las Vegas, Dallas, Hawaii and southern california all are terrific products. And, don't forget the enormous amount of maps and such you get! It really is an awesome package and my words fail to encompass the greatness of these photoscenery packages.MegaSceneryEarth is a completely different story, and here you have to take great care in buying the right stuff: - The NYC Citypack is awesome. The colors are vibrant and beautiful, the scenery is aligned correctly with runways and such, autogen is okay.- Chicago area is okay. It looks good, but you can easily spot the mergepoints between tiles of photoscenery due color mismatch. Seems like less effort was taken to correct the colors. Runways seem well-aligned, but a major downside is that I find the occasional cloud - including one right on the approach patrh of KORD Rwy 09L! Extremely sloppy in my opinion.- From what I have seen, Boston area and some othe rplaces just don't do it. The imagery is not good enough in my opinion, although I have seen similar views with other products, making me think that available imagery for these areas perhaps isn't that great.- And have you seen the Florida tiles? Clouds everywhere! Looks terrible...In summary, all MegaCityX packs come highly recommended. Of MegaSceneryEarth, NYC is highly recommended, the rest not so much so.All in all, what's nice is that you tend to get a lot for a relatively low price, plus you get night lighting. There are no extra seasons outside summer! My final advice is to study screenshots of the available areas very well before buying anything. And, if no screenshots are included, ask around the Avsim forums for opinions!

I agree. I was so disappointed in the Florida stuff when I installed it. I had/have been waiting so long for some good Ft.Lauderdale/Miami photo scenery with night textures and was super excited when I saw that area was one of the first that MSE did. Of course, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment once I bought those two tiles and installed them. The regular MegaScenery stuff is great though. I am fortunate that they have done three areas in which I have lived or live, SoCal, Phoenix and Dallas. I think the reason it looks so good is because the tiles come from actual aerial photography and not from satelite photos according to their website. Which makes sense since none of that stuff has clouds in it. It's too bad they couldn't keep that line going since it was really good stuff.I have considered getting the NYC tiles to go with FSDT's JFK, but since it only comes with summer textures I have held of getting it since it would look pretty wierd flying into there in the winter with no snow on the ground. Although I guess I could always just disable it for the winter and use GEX for that season. Now that I think about it, I may have just talked myself into buying it :-)

In my experience, I always fly in summer, hardly ever in winter. For me it therefor isn't much of a problem that only summer textures are included. Really, the NYC textures are good. It's a thrill to come flying into KJFK from the north, and seeing exactly what I've seen last May, with Manhattan skyline in the distance (Thank you Aerosoft!).

I wish I could make myself only fly summer, but after 8 months or so of spring, summer, and fall textures and weather, I really enjoy some good winter flying into places like ORD and JFK. However, for those few months it would be easy enough to just disable MSE in the NYC or ORD area if I get those tiles. Frankly, one thing I really like about MSE is the night textures and I imagine they would look pretty good in the NYC area.Does the NYC tiles from MSE come with at least a fair amount of autogen? I noticed that the MSE I have for Seattle and southern AZ doesn't have much autogen. It has a little, but its so spares I can barely even notice it.

There is some, but its mainly trees actually. I'm not a fan of autogen on photosceneries though, and am usually inclined to just turn it off for these sceneries. They don't align too well and look out of place. Perhaps Vero FS does a better job, though.

The Southern California package is good along with the Mega Scenery Earth lower Southern California Tiles. Most of the tiles up the cost are good, to you get to San Francisco then it sucks. Also the Reno Tahoe pack is great especially when you add a few more tiles from Mega Scenery Earth. If you know how to do it you can add freeware airports on top of it for a better experience. The rest of the stuff isn't that good. Hawaii is great when you add the different freeware scenery's and the Newport Pay ware.

I'm surprised you did that considering how many people just said to stay away from it. :) Remember MegaSceneryX Las Vegas is in a completely different product line than the MegaScenery Earth products.
