May 17, 201115 yr Hi, I have two questions regarding PFE:1) I search a route using Vroute, and export it to a FSX flightplan. (in this case, amsterdam-paris)I then convert that flightplan to PFE flightplan, and load that into PFE. All works OK, except that the ATC doesn't follow my route at all. My route is 50nm south ~200degrees but it wants to send me to 145 degrees left. (the arrival airport isn't 145 degrees left either). Am I missing something?2) How does PFE select the departure/arrival runway? Is it based on airport AFCAD or the current weather that FSX is using? I check amsterdam ATIS but it names all runways for t/o and t/d and I have the feeling it just randomizes one. I.e. it just told me to depart from 18C, which I believe is very uncommon. Thanks John doe
May 17, 201115 yr Hi Squishy,1. Maybe it's vectoring you out of your departure airport for inbound traffic or as far as I know Amsterdam has an extensive SID circuit. It may be just following one of those and instead of clearing you to fly the SID yourself, it's radar vectoring you. Did you wait and see if it gets you back on course after leaving the terminal area ? (I have never experienced this so I'm sort of shooting in the dark here, although not being cleared directly on filed course after take-off is very normal BUT it should let you intercept your planned course eventually and hand you off to the next controller thereafter.)A quote from the manual says, "When you create a flight plan in FS, or any other flight planner, it really doesn‘t care too much about the distance between waypoints or from your departure or destination airports, whereas ProFlight most certainly does. You see with waypoint which are too close together or too close to the airport can cause ProFlight a lot of problems vectoring you from one to another. So during the compilation stage ProFlight will drop any waypoints it determines to be too close to either airport or too close together enroute. Subsequently you could end up with an FS flight plan which you may choose to load into the FS GPS and ProFlight‘s flight plan being different."2. During a flight PFE will determine the runway to use at your destination. It does this by first checking to see which runway is currently being used by AI traffic. If there are no AI traffic currently taking off, landing or on route to your destination airport PFE will assign a runway determined by wind direction. The Pilot can help predetermine his intended runway by selecting the wind direction in the Weather menu prior to starting PFE. For those using "real Weather“ or some other weather generating program, they will be subject to the "actual“ wind direction.Hope this helps :)Cheers
May 17, 201115 yr Can you download a demo of this product, it looks interesting but i am cautious were ATC upgrades are concerned? Ian R Tyldesley
May 17, 201115 yr Author 1) Well, I entered this flightplan: "LEKKO N872 LARAS UN872 DENOX UZ319 MOPIL"I said i had to take-off from 18C, which doesn't have a LEKKO SID. So i just directed to LEKKO.2)I use World of AI for AI and REX for weather. So I guess it first looks at the world of AI to determine T/O runway? I still think it's weird that the ATIS lists all runways for T/O and T/D.I now hope that World of AI looks at the REX weather to determine T/O runway? Or does it look at AFCAD?Thanks John doe
May 17, 201115 yr Can you download a demo of this product, it looks interesting but i am cautious were ATC upgrades are concerned?Hi Ian,I don't think there is a demo for such an application as it restructures the entire ATC library so a demo would essentially be the full version with a time limit probably. However, I am not aware of such a thing. As a user of PFE, I would strongly recommend you to purchase a copy. You can do so here : http://en.shop.aerosoft.com/eshop.php?action=article_detail&s_supplier_aid=10544&s_design=DEFAULT&shopfilter_category=Flight%20SimulationThere are a lot of topics on AVSIM where specific comparisons have taken place between such softwares, namely Radar Contact 4 (RC4) and ProFlight Emulator (PFE). A quick search for these names will show you a few discussion threads. If need be, you can even search Youtube for videos about ProFlight Emulator 2000 (PFE). Hope this helps. Cheers

For SIDs to be active, you need to enable them and sometimes even configure them under 'SID/STAR' option displayed on the main screen of PFE. If that is not active, you will not receive any SIDs/STARs on your flight. 2. World Of AI checks the current wind information and then selects the active runway. So whatever wind vectors are set through REX will be incorporated into Flight Simulator and then WOAI will pick it up and choose the most favorable runway for departures and arrivals.I think I'm going to give your flight a try and see what results I get.Cheers
May 17, 201115 yr Yeah i have looked at the videos on youtube; i purchased radar contact and was, frankly, disappointed. This is not a cheap add on... Thanks for your help, i'll need to think more.Radar Contact 4, personally, doesn't come close to PFE. (I am going to have a lot of users here commenting otherwise but this is my personal opinion) The amount of data that has gone into making this application is truly tremendous. Since the program has been written using Visual Basic and VB.NET, it stays very smooth throughout. Calls are precise and a lot of aviation phrases have been added to the system. All of this and other superb features make the calls fast, smooth and almost life-like (a lot of which is missing in Radar Contact 4). You won't be disappointed with PFE. Although I should warn you that quite a bit of work goes into setting up a flight but once you get the hang of it, it's not that big a deal and well worth the results it gets, specially if you're one of those serious simmers.Cheers
May 18, 201115 yr Hello all:First of all, anything I say is not meant to bash PFE. I have had PF2000 since it came out many years, many FS versions ago. I was thrilled to death when PFE resurrected it. I use it on virtually every flight I make which are many. Being lucky enough to have it in the beginning, I still have GameCommander that I use for voice communication which adds reality to FS IMHO. To me personally, the program is almost worth having simply for the updated taxi direction provisions. That being said I would take issue with only one thing that has been included in this thread relative to the following quote:"2. During a flight PFE will determine the runway to use at your destination. It does this by first checking to see which runway is currently being used by AI traffic. If there are no AI traffic currently taking off, landing or on route to your destination airport PFE will assign a runway determined by wind direction."In principle this may be accurate, but has not occured at all times for me personally. I would not be without it, but PFE/PF2000 is not perfect and my experience has been that it is not uncommon on takeoff as per PFE ATC to have other AI Aircraft landing the opposite direction on the same runway to which I have been directed to takeoff. In like mannner I have had AI aircraft takeoff the opposite direction on the same runway to which PfE ATC has directed me to land. The easiest way to negate this is to pause the flight and change the time of day by even as little as a second causing all AI aircraft to reset and go away for the moment. This might be because of something I am doing or overlooked, but if so I have no idea what it might be.Respectfully:RTH
May 20, 201115 yr I have had the same issues with AI going opposite of my take-off or approach. I press R then + + + then - - - quickly (make sure you have enough time to do this) as it gets rid of AI as well as the time shift RTH mentioned. I have this problem more often with FS9 than I do with FSX, but I don't know why. Version 2.14 is working very well for me. OP - if you browse the PFE forum at http://www.ocs-suppo...ewforum.php?f=4 you may find the answer to your troubles. If not, register and ask. The developer, Dave March, or one of his helpers, are very quick to answer and have been very helpful. Be aware that he's in the U.K. so his reply may not be immediate, but usually within 24 hrs.

I was still using 1.8.x.I've just installed the newest version as well as the voicepack and i'll try again shortly John doe
May 20, 201115 yr The issue with AI landing or taking off apparently in the wrong direction is usually down to a cross wind situation. For example at EGLL if the wind is 270 10 kts. Then in all probability rwy 09 will be selected even though in reality 27 would be chosen. Also FS itself sometimes can't make up its mind and subsequently nor can PFE. It being a slave in this respect.vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA

May 24, 201115 yr Could anyone explain how to add SIDs? I can only add stars for EHAM.It couldn't be simpler. follow the manuel and enter your chosen SID in the same manner as you you see here.vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
May 24, 201115 yr Author So I have to add SIDs for all airports??edit: btw, what pilot/atc voice do you guys use? I find that some sound pretty good yet some others sound worse than RC4 (i.e. like a robot). Thanks John doe
