June 5, 201115 yr I have this system setup:- AMD 64x2 4000+ (finally I'm back with this system I had to leave behind 3 years ago).- ATI Radeon HD4350 (for replacing an old AGP card I had installed)- 2x 1GB RAM DDR2I've just bought a new motherboard so that I could replace my old AGP GPU (an elderly Geforce FX5500) with the Radeon. Almost everyone recommends a reformat when changing motherboards, so that would be a chance to try Windows 7 in this system. Is it worthwhile? Or should I stick with XP? In any case, I'll keep using 32-bit versions, and I'll be running FS2004 on it.Best regards from Colombia,Luis Miguel Best regards,Luis Hernández Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. June 5, 201115 yr Hi Luis.I think only amount of memory is a potential problem for W7.I switched from XP64 to W7 64 bit and I will never go back.FS9 works ok but remember to turn off UAC , install as admin on non default location.Because of memory I suggest you to stay with XPMy opinionEdin
June 5, 201114 yr Nothing wrong with XP, If that's what you like. I must say that I have ME, XP, Vista,Linux, and W7 running at my house. W7 64 bit is slick and fast. FS may not run faster, but everything else will. Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
June 14, 201114 yr Author Well, I just decided to install 7, it's just more "brotherproof" than XP :( (I hope my brothers don't read this). FS9 runs very smooth, it only complains when there is overcast sky (and with 1024x1024 Pablo Díaz' clouds), but I don't know if it's because of 7 or my video card.Anyway, thanks to everyone.Best regards from Colombia,Luis Miguel Best regards,Luis Hernández Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. I suggest you stick with XP - that's the system Fs9 was designed for. I am using Win7 because my system came with it but if I had to do a reinstall (G-d forbid!) I would probably ditch Win7 and get XP Pro...
June 14, 201114 yr If I were you, I would stay on XP x86.A few months ago I migrated from XP x86 to Win7 X64 because of hardware changes and driver issues.Although FS9 runs pretty good on W7 my feeling/believe is that it runs better/smoother under XP.You have 2GB of RAM, so you won't benefit much from Win7 anyway Location: Vleuten, The Netherlands, 17.3dme SPL 108.40 | Simulator: FS2024 System: AMD 7800X3D - Gigabyte X670 - RTX 4090 - 64GB DDR5 - 2 x 2TB SSD - 32" 1440p Display - Windows 11 Pro
June 14, 201114 yr FS9 is a 32 bit program. XPpro is fine. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't. Using W7 provides you with headaches because you don't know how to deal with the things that you breezed within 'XP'. Dave Taylor
June 14, 201114 yr HelloRun it on XP64 bit if you can.Totally compatible with FS9 and you get the benefits of 64bit with the familiar and much better interface of XP.Patch FS9 to be Large Address Aware and you have a really solid platform with zero OOM issues.
