Camera Backpack for carry on

Recommended Posts

Hey guys have not really been away on a trip that required a flight to get there for sometime, anyways I have got a DSLR backpack that I was going to carry onto the plane, in it I have my camera, a few lens, batteries plus charger and a tripod, my plan was to maby take some pic's or maby a video during flight, but then I thought maby security might have a problem with this bag and all its compartments or might see something as a potential security threat. Im just flying from Toronto Canada down to the Bahama's to get a little vitamin d its been raining here on the east coast since April and I need a breakbiggrin.gif, I will probably check with Air Canada anyways but just wondering if anyone here has traveled with there camera gear alongside.

I travel with my photography gear regularly. I have a Lowepro CompuTrekker AW bag that holds my two camera bodies, lenses, accessories, and laptop. It fits in an overhead compartment perfectly.

I certainly wouldn't put a camera in checked baggage. I'm not sure about Canadian or Bahamian security inspections, but in the US, the Transportation Security Agency does not have much a reputation for integrity.

Thanks guys this puts my mind at ease, awhile back my wife got on a plane to get to Toronto and they took her water bottle but didn't seem to mind the swiss army knife on her car keysbiggrin.gif, so I was just not sure of the level of security I'm going to see, I don't want them to think my tripod is some sort of dangerous weapon.biggrin.gif

The most that security will do is check your bag manually and let you pass. If it is not a really big bag, I would keep it under your seat during the flight so its readily available when something interesting is out the window. The flight attendants might ask you to turn it off for take off and landing, though. You can get some great shots, like this one I took on an AA 738 from KORD-KSEA:5048943405_300c52d375_z.jpgDusk at 36,000 Feet by KORDspotting, on Flickr

You should check with the airline before taking any photos of the interior or other passengers. An airliner isn't a public place.

From Toronto to Bahamas will be fine. I always bring my DSLR on the plane with my laptop and gear. I also take photo's and film from the window of the aircraft. So far this year I've gone from: Toronto to New York and back on Porter Dash 8Toronto to Vancouver on Westjet 737Vancouver to Auckland on Air New Zealand 747Auckland to Wellington on Air New Zealand 737Wellington to Nelson on Air New Zealand Dash 8Here is one of my video's landing in Wellington:

I took film or photo's on some of those flights. They can be seen on my Youtube and PhotoBucket here:http://www.youtube.com/user/ytzpilothttp://s812.photobuc...rter%20Airline/http://s812.photobuc...lot/Wellington/http://s812.photobuc...estjet%20FL681/Have a great trip and share your pictures when you get backCheers
