Why is MS still using 2D Clouds?

Featured Replies

so you can see how a software is coded only looking at a screenshot?? AMAZING... YOU REALLY ARE A GURU THEN!In my more than 20 years of software developer I never understood how do it... please enlighten me....MatthewS, stop digging a hole or you will fall inside..
As previously stated Flight looks remarkably like FSX. It's highly unlikely that a new 3D engine developed by a new team would result in screenshots/videos that resemble FSX so closely (in particular the same deficiencies/bugs as in FSX). We can reasonably assert then that Flight is in fact using a variant of the FSX 3D engine. This also makes good business sense for MS, to leverage the existing FSX engine (and make enhancements) rather than scratch build a new engine.Yes I am also a software developer with 20 years experience. I can appreciate the investment MS has made in FSX and why they would want to leverage that investment in Flight. FSX is after all a very good and stable platform, with a lot of 3rd party developer expertise (think PMDG for example). Giving developers a enhanced platform they are themselves already invested in will help the Flight Store become populated with quality products more quickly. After all the Flight Store is why MS is doing Flight, to take a commission of every Flight add-on sale.

Not sure what words I'm putting into others mouths, can you please explain/give examples?
Dont you even understand your own posts?
...you could try telling me why you think its a new 3D engine ....
Where did I say I thought it was a new 3D engine?

you didn't answer my question, you are climbing on mirrors, please explain how you can see, from a simple screenshot, how the software is coded. I would like to know...

I've just explained how we can reasonably assert Flight is using an enhanced FSX engine and is not a rewrite from 'scratch'.

well, as Phil said... yawn.....

Not much of a counter to my argument is it? I'll check back in the morning, you may come up with something more substantial by then.

....

i think outerra really shows potential, hope some of the "big players" buys these guys and makes somthing great with this engine.. :) shadows in this vid look just too good:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrlVSAiu4Ag

Indeed, Outerra does look very nice!No idea if it is feasible for Flight, nor what the hardware requirements are vs. the current FSX scenery engine (as adapted for Flight).Cheers,- jahman.

Outerra is simply amazing, but does even it have 3D clouds with shadows?

Did you see any, in any of the screenshots? Things always look good with a clear cloudless sky!

I would like my clouds to look like the FSX preview movies, way back when. I don't want rotating clouds, and I want a sense of speed when I go thru them.I hope the New ATC will be revamped,No crazy vectors, speed changes,SIDS and STARS,Etc.But when has MS ever developed A sim for us core fanatics? I anticipate just more useless eye candy to satisfy the masses, for max sales.

Now you know why I hope Flight = FSX SP 4, 5, 6... @ 30 FPS solid with all sliders to the right over KLAX. That's good enough for me!Cheers,- jahman.

Aerosoft considered the Outera engine for their proposed new flight sim but rejected it as not suitable.Bryan.
