Real Flight 737 ATL-LAS

I am not too concerned about using derate/reduced thrust in the event of an engine failure. The performance numbers given have to take into account engine failures. Worst case just bump the thrust up and over ride the reduction of reduced tgrust if you need a bit more ummmphh.JackColwill

Out of curiosity, does anyone know of an airline that uses bump thrust on takeoff and at what airport?

We use it occassionally at PHOG.JackColwill

i love the way the 737-700 looks. went to st.maarten a month or so ago with westjet and got to talk to the pilot. the NG cockpit is surprisingly small, i sat in the right seat and barely had room to move.

A question for any pilots here, have you ever flown into SXM? Is it an exciting destination for the crew?

It's all fine and dandy until you lose an engine...I honestly don't think they would have enough thrust to make it over the trees...I'd much rather waste gas and be airborne quicker and up high faster than save gas and be much more vulnerable...
When BA operated their 747s here in Japan they use up the whole runway with a massive deration of thrust and the plane is at or near the MTOW. They rotate somewhere down the threashold and everyone on the observation deck are like wow that jumbo must be real heavy comapred to all the other jets here

Ok so derated is reduced thrust, do theyb do this alot? When they dont do it they do max thrust dont they? So does that mean they just push the throttle levers all the way, or select something in the FMC? How much N1 would a max thrust be and how much would a derated be? Also a FLEX thrust is when you tell the FMC the tempreture is higher than it actually is so you use less thrust right?

Guys,The talk about derates being dangerous in the event of an engine failure is silly - Boeing takes engine-out into account when devising the numbers - you're never going to be given a derate that puts your ability to climb on one engine in jeopardy. That's why the allowed amount of derate varies with weight, runway length, temperature etc. If you want to see how this works, buy a copy of TOPCAT, it shows it really well.

Right on Tabs! I own TOPCAT, and refuse to fly any plane that is not in it's database. I have learned so much about the intricacies of derates with this program, it really does all the hard work for you by parsing all the required data (weather, runway length, and aircraft weight), it's like the tools the big boys use. Speaking of derates and TOPCAT, I use the highest one possible if it offers at least 500ft margin at V1, meaning if the takeoff is aborted at or before V1 the aircraft will stop within 500 ft of the end of the runway. I wanted to know from any of the experienced simmers, or real world pilots, if this is a realistic figure. I had read somewhere that another TOPCAT user uses 500 ft as a minimum, but wasn't sure if it is the best figure.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's dangerous, nor have I ever heard of an incident because of it. I was mearly commenting on how much of a pain it is to pull squeeze plays with TRS. ;)

Hey everyone...Greeting from FL370 TRS776 LAS-ATL. I am on GoGo in flight internet...Big%20Grin.gifWe have a male Captain and a female FO.--I got to do part of the Pre-Flight and they let me get our PDC and verify the route in the FMC! They were both amazed at my knowledge in the aircraft. I told them about FSX and how almost everything is simulated. Takeoff from LAS was VERY weak. 07L for departure. WE rolled wayyyyy down the rwy, heavily derated.I filmed the t/o and I will film the landing and upload them later tonight once I get back home. I am currently over northern Texas.Best Regards,

Out of curiosity, how were you able to take part of the pre-flight and mess around in the cockpit?
