I agree. :-lolBut nevertheless, Brents post is even more actual today. For me, the good old FS community died a long time ago. And if I should try to be more specific,...just about when Project Freeware packed their bags for good. ;-)I don

...When a patch applies it to projects of the new announcementy.? Already next sim is the makes so i don't wait. By the weight, who is Ponderosa?..(LevD-PIC forum classic)

>As for faceless forums, I agree with you. We have often>considered having not only a real name / email address tied to>forum access, but in fact, tied to access to the site in>total.Tom, there is a good idea, at least the forum access part. Anonymity is king on alot of forums, but this is a family. We who are in this for the love of flying seek encouragement, humor and warmth on these pages, from those out there who feel the same way. I would second the motion that real names be used here. Let the site remain as is, to invite and encourage more people, and let anyone who wanders around to see the forums, but no posting without registration with a real name.My name is Jeremy Burch, folks. I'm from Cassville, MO. I have a wife and two kids, a pretty good job that I like and sometimes, whenever I happen to find the time, I clear the mail away from my joystick and go flying. And I love coming to Avsim, that's why it's my Firefox homepage. Not because of the reviews, the downloads, or the news, but because of the community. There are people within the virtual walls of this forum who have had my utmost respect for years. When I finally did join it was almost overwhelming to be a part of such a huge family. But now, it's a second home.It saddens me to see Brent go, but I hope that he knows there are alot of us here who still respect him, and will always welcome him back into the family, as if he were never gone, because at Avsim forums he never will be.Thanks go out to all who make these forums possible, and all of the family who support them and empower them. I love you guys.-Jeremy Burchhttp://home.earthlink.net/~dawgfighter/sit...es/swvasig1.gifSWVA4806 http://www.virtualswa.com/home.phpThe Ozark Dogfighter http://forums.avsim.net/images/wedge.gifHappy Flying!

Tom,I really want to thank you for this site. I've been around since the beginning of this and Nels' site. I have seen this constant fighting ever since then. Anyone remember all the fighting around the release of Red Baron II/3D, Geez, there was some infighting. :)Nope, it doesn't bother me at all. There are people whose posts I love to read and those whose posts I make sure I never read. And my number one rule is, don't bother to egg the bad ones on by responding to them. Just walk right on by.But most of all, there are way too many awesome people around here for me to leave. I have way too much to learn still! Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)

I'm 49. When I was 11, I had CB. I was an early adopter. Basic rig, 3 channel with a 12v power supply from Radio Shack. Back then, you could talk around the world when the wx was just right. It was called "skip"Another thing we used to do was have regular "roundtables". Pick a quiet channel, and talk among yourselves. It was like a 3 way call, or more...more like a phone bridge. When the movie "Convoy" came out, everyone got a CB. It was over then. Folks became rude, obnoxious, arrogant. Hobby went to ####.Back in the days of Ham radio, when it was strictly regulated, the hobby policed itself. Poison Dwarfs were shunned and exposed to the authorities. Once the govt. regulation got lax, the self police got lax. I have not heard ham in years, but I bet I would not recognize it.Tom...I think we as a hobby will do what we can to fix our ills, but perhaps it can only flourish when it becomes a private club. When there are membership requirements, policing becomes easier. Just like ham used to be.My 2 cents,bt

When a collection of enthusiasts with strong opinions have strong disagreements, does that not indicate the health of the community, not its ailment? Are we really suggesting that Teletubbies has a superior world view to Newsnight because Laalaa never disagrees with anybody and Paxman gives politicians a hard time? What a naive world to live in, and perhaps one we would do well to encourage our younger members is not correct in the age we live in. People come and go from the sim community all the time. Some blame themselves, some blame others because they can. The community allows allsorts in, and good for us I say or else exclusivity marks us out as discriminatory - racist even. Through that acceptance we - yes WE - have to accept THEM for what they are, not what we'd like them to be. This whole thread reads like the few trying to impose their will on the many. And people - our people - are fighting wars to prevent that from being the case. We should look at ourselves befoer we dare criticise anyone else.If you don't like what someone says, don't reply to it. Same answer as if you dont want to participate in a thread, then dont. If you drive them away in any shape or form, you are actually WORSE than those you criticise. None of us is perfect. And none of us are in a position to criticise. And get real people. If you think its bad here, you should try some of the audiophile boards I also inhabit. Or some of the technical forums I have to visit for work. Every page reads like a new script of Deadwood! Compared to them this is ballet against death metal! And, it seems to me that's EXACTLY what a family is. Warts and all. You can't choose your family, but you can choose to be a part of this community, or cease to be. And how you want to be. It's not for us to decide whats acceptable. To coin a phrase: "let he who is without sim cast the first stone!" Allcott

The thread can be locked for all I care. I just posted to it, and did not realize it's history. But it does serve to remind..."the more things change, the more things stay the same."bt

>With respect...that last post was not understandable in>english.lol...It's not supposed to be.

The presences of belligerent posters are not unique to AVSIM. I'm a moderator at one of the largest sports compact websites on the web. (over 25,000 registered members). The frequency and veracity of jerks is greater than AVSIM due the age and maturity of the members. However, Tom, your post could be moved to that site without editing. We can't eliminate it, just control it with tight moderation. It is a poor solution and a lot of work. :)I fear it is a reflection of peoples disaffection with their own lives and the world we live in. Once anonymity is perceived guaranteed, responsibility for one's words and character apparently disappear.Bob..
