July 17, 201114 yr Yes, folks, World's cheapest and shortest ever jet flight: $4 (not a typo!) for 34 miles (not a typo!) from Burbank, CA to Long Beach, CA.See: Article/VideoA CNN producer on the flight raced another producer in a car... and lost! (1h:42m in the jet vs. 0h:51m for the car), as the expected "Carmaggeddon" turned into a "Carmaheaven".Cheers,- jahman.
July 17, 201114 yr (1:42 in the jet vs. 0:51 for the car)Is that in hours or minutes? Quite an amazing price for a flight. A person could buy every seat on an A320 for $600! Thanks, Kevin L

July 17, 201114 yr Trip was from city-to-city, not airport-to-airport, although even if it was airport-to-airport the car could still win with enough take-off delays and holding to approach/land for traffic.Cheers,- jahman.
July 17, 201114 yr Commercial Member Not to mention the flight numbers are JBU405 and JBU1405 ;) Kyle Weber (Private Pilot, ASEL; Flight Test Engineer)Check out my repaints and downloads, all right here on AVSIM
July 18, 201114 yr I wouldnt say they were the worlds cheapest fares. In 2007 ryanair did a promotion and you could fly to destinations in Europe for just 1p each way or 2p return. That was including taxes too. 2p being between 3 and 4 US cents. The shortest jet flight I went on was 15 minutes and that was between Gibraltar and Tangiers in a Boeing 737-200. We flew upto 3000feet for that trip and I think it was at that time the shortest International scheduled flight in the world. I think it was more than 34 miles though but still seemed way too short, considering how much I had to pay for it. LOLNowadays if I am lucky I can get a return ticket from Stockholm to London return for about £20 approx $35 if I book at the right time. Thats not bad for a 1600 mile or so round trip. Wonder if you have time to eat on that JetBlue flight to buy a packet of those blue potato chips. Do they still do those btw??Craig
July 19, 201114 yr It must be a marketing initiative on their part. They would fly this route at a big loss. Right this off as a marketing campaign. Get people on board a Jet Blue across town and they can use that time to promote some other campaigns.Or maybe they shuttle this aircraft between these two cities anyways so better to fill the seats for $4Cheers Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
July 19, 201114 yr Moderator There was a posting on Flightaware about a group of cyclists that beat the flight also.http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2011/07/16/cyclists-in-burbank-beat-jetblue-to-long-beach/Some airliners are having some pretty good promos right now aside from that Burbank to Long Beach flight. About a month or two ago I purchased a round trip ticked for a flight in mid-Sept round trip from KDFW to KFLL for about $92 including taxes and fees. It started out as something like $5 but after all the fees were added it was $92. Not a bad deal at all considering that when I fly that route on AA it usually costs me around $250 round trip. The cyclists all deserve medals... from JetBlue's competition! :biggrin:Cheers,- jahman.
