HDR mod for FSX

Are you using ENB with FSX or FS9, because you have a FS9 link in your signature. Also, please share the PROXY part of your ini file. I like ENB, but I get the same problems that Scott described.
I use ENB with FSX w/o BSoD, but I use bat file to start them together. If you tell me the exact path of "fsx.exe" and "FPS_Limiter.exe" (can see in properties) I`ll try to make the batch fo you

I use it with both. The proxy part of the config is irrelevant unless you use the new .dll frame limiter. If you are using the regular external limiter then you don't need it.

The thing is Scott, your experiences aren't necessarily the same ones that others will have with the enb. I can tell you that I 100% do not have any black screen/crashing issues when using it with highmemfix, regardless of how many times I need to access menus or alt+tab during a flight. As far as any image problems go, again there are others (myself included) that have completely managed to configure the settings to provide a realistic image, both at day and during the night, without any anomalies. It's very unfortuante for those of you who do have unresolvable issues, but I think we'd all get bored of FS if everything always worked perfectly! You really get out of the ENB only what you're prepared to put in to configuring it. It's unfortunate that not everyone can come up with perfect settings, but it does take a hell of a lot of time to do. Of course the settings have to be tailored to an individuals personal preference of what looks realistic, monitor settings, as well as (most importantly) each sky texture that you use, as these will change the effects immensely. For this reason sharing .ini settings is virtually pointless unless the exact sky textures it was configured for are also shared. It does take a lot of work to get it configured, but is well worth it if you can find the time and energy to do so.
I think the issue is you use FSX in a different manner than I do, and my eye for the right look is far different as well. What you call realistic, I may not, especially at night. For me to get anything that resembles what a city night looks like, with the grid of street lights that glow and illuminate the sky, will be totally unusable in the day. Odds are, what you call your realistic settings, if I used them and flew at night, I would say they would be underwhelming and not at all realistic. Improved certainly, the settings file I have certainly improves the situation, and then I have mixed in Shockwvae lights, UTX street lights, and all that, but they still do not resemble the look one sees in real life when flying over urban areas at night. Now there are those that say flying in FSX in windowed mode will rid the black screen issue. But as for flying in full screen mode, if you fly long enough and access menus and window redraws enough times, you will get the black screen. There have been times where I was able to complete three 40 or so mintue flights around the Hawaiian islands, after each one able to close out the flight in FSPax and get no black screen, but after the fourth one, it black screened. After a long 3 hour flight in a more complex add-on like the Level D, or the Maddog, it is almost a statistical certainty I wil see black screens. And I am not the minority here. I was part of a long thread on this both here and at Dantrix on how to get the EFB mod to work with no black screens. Conclusions, presented by someone else, ENB invalidates Highmemfix. So your fortune of not seeing a black screen has nothing to do with somehow getting HIGHMEMFIX to work under EFB, unless you are using a newer version of the mod than I am aware of (since I heard of efforts for a new one that does ineed work with Highmemfix, but never heard of it being completed).

FPS_limiter_0.2 is what I am using.

I can assure you that whether or not highmemfix is actually working behind the scenes, I have NEVER gotten the black screen problem. I'm in and out of the menus constantly during a flight, and also need to frequently alt+tab as well as switch between fulls screen and windowed to access Jeppview/virtual airline clients/SB ect. I certainly never tried to accuse you of being in the minority regarding the issue, but simply meant to point out that it wasn't the guaranteed certainty that you were portraying it as to a new user, as there are some of us without it.Mostly agree regarding the enb config though as it is definitely dependant on user perception of realism. That beign said I think that given enough time tweaking, everyone should be able to get something that is close enough. You could always use two configs for night/day and switch them up, although obviously not great for long flights through dawn/dusk.

You don't need to worry about the proxy section then. Have a look in the following thread if you want to give the alternative limiter a try.http://forum.avsim.n...__frame+limiter

I should ask then, did you ever seen black screens or disappearing textures before without HIGHMEMFIX? Before the HIGHMEMFIX was revealed back when ever that was, if I flew the Level D 767 during dusk, it was a given the VC would disappear on me. I even was able to capture it on video: http://youtu.be/v1l-0QjQVeQ Also had issues with runway and taxiway textures going missing, black screens and all that mess. HIGHMEMFIX fixed all these things for me. Maybe under your system and your settings, FSX never had those problems. My system however requires HIGHMEMFIX and the UIAutomationcore.dll tweak in order to run FSX.

I only adopted FSX a few months ago and jumped right in using Bojotes auto tweaker, so don't know if the issue was present before the fix or not. Have completed flights up to six hours so far without having any real issues. Will certainly try disabling it next time I fly and see if it presents itself.

just drop the config and the d3d9.dll into the root fsx directory (where your FSX.exe is), and it is installed. If you want to remove it, all you need to do is remove the .dll, you can keep the config file there if you want.

BTW about keeping. One day I have found a few enbseries.ini in different subdir-s of FSX. It was surprising how could they appear there. They caused BlackScreeen at the end of flights with FSPax .ENB d3d9.dll has odd behavior and strong affinity to its ini, so would be better to keep all inactive/backup d3d9 and its .ini files packed in archives

The black screen is so annoying and it happens to me all the time. I've seen a ton of things on the internet and the only thing that has worked so far is not pressing ALT + TAB and using the windows options (right clicking on the window frame to minimize or restore). If it takes removing the ENB mod, to have a stable FSX then that's what it has to be. For the record I have Win 7 64 bit with the Mod using the proxy .dll for the limiter. I'm going to have to find the other external limiter now as the frustration level of not being able to complete a fleet on a new system is beyond frustrating.

I will add this. The disappearing textures and the black screen stuff that made FSX very unstable only occured to me when I really started to pile on the 3rd party scenery addons. When I just flew default everything with just Friendly Panels update for the default 737 displays, I dont think I ever had the black screen problem or dawn dusk issues. Even when I first installed REX, I even simmed with iTunes running in the background. But then I started adding UTX, GEX, Active Sky and cranking up the cloud layer sliders, Ultimate Traffic (back then it was UT 1), and then the frames started to get hit and get hit hard, and then I was running into issues with freezing panels, the disappearing flight decks, the textures going missing.I then rebuilt my machine to the one I am using now, the i7 (I have since boosted the RAM and the GPU a few times), but I still required HIGHMEMFIX, so if you are running pretty much stock everything, then things are probably going to go alright for you. But if you have 3rd party addons to improve the scenery and the environment, then the black screens can become pretty regular. As much as I do like how ENB behaves, and adds to the light in the clouds, for me, at least right now, stability it far more important. And that has changed. When I first found ENB I never flew without it. Then I dropped it because of the flickering with FSPax and FS2Crew, but then went back and just dealt with it, but now I have dropped it in hopes that someone will eventually at some point find a way to get it to work, or modify it, or flat out create a new one that plays well with FSX and can add the fancy effects, maybe make it so that it does not also apply both to the environment and to the VC, which is highly doubtful since the mod works on the entire window and is not actually internal, and of course works without compromising the benefits of the HIGHMEMFIX.
