PMDG 737NGX Livery Availability

Steve, I'll see what I can get for you. I have a number of friends who work airside at some airports she flies into so will see what they can produce. She sure is a beauty IMHO. Thanks for giving it a go!

Mark,

The only Kokoda emblem I can find on the Internet is more of a "Bronze" looking emblem. I have yet to find one that matches the one on the left side in the pictures. If it does not exist, it would require me to create it from scratch. The map I have seems very usable. So my only areas of concern is what the right side looks like and if I can find that emblem exactly like it is on the aircraft.

Amazing shots Steve !!

Thanks! They aren't the best clarity. They were taken in DX10 mode which has lousy anti-aliasing, so the engine pattern is not sharp, but blurry on the external shots that are set back from the plane.

That would be fantastic! If I can help in any way, finding pictures or whatever documentation you might need please let me know.

Bob,

I'm making good headway on the Wien Air Alaska -600. Here's an initial in-progress shot. The final colors are nowhere close. I decided to do the engines in the dark blue color. Since they never flew anything after the -200, I figured I'd make the engine color match the main top color.

good paint job!! I like the blue engines very much!!

All,

The Virgin Samoa livery uses the texture called "texture.DJ". I did not realize that there is a Virgin Blue livery out that will have the exact same code letters. Both are technically correct, but you will have to modify the Virgin Blue or Virgin Samoa livery (whichever is installed first) before loading the second one.

Just rename the first livery to "DJ1" or something similar in the aircraft folder for the -800WL. Then edit the "aircraft.cfg" text file to show the "texture=DJ1" for whichever one you installed first. Then you should have no issues when attempting to load the second livery.

Wow Steve, that looks great just as it sits!!! The blue engine nacelles look fantastic, and as you point out Wien was long gone by the time the -600's came out so that certainly leaves room for a little artistic license. Sure looking forward to this one. Thanks again for all the hard work you put into this.

You're very welcome! I haven't even started on the vertical stab except for slapping the Wien text on it. I still have to extend the white/gold colors up on the tail. That will be the most work to make sure everything aligns up correctly. I still have to evaluate the photos out there to get the colors right. Not sure if that gold is really a gold or a shade of orange, but I'll get it close as I can.

I might end up putting a small state of Alaska logo somewhere on the front. I spent 7 wonderful years in Alaska and definitely remember the airline. The name is still very prominent in the state.

Texture "DJ1" is PMDG's Virgin Australia paint. :)

If you have the "DJ" (PMDG's Virgin Blue livery) or "DJ!" textures already installed, you might want to simply run the installer, and when the installer reports that the texture code you're trying to install already exists, simply enter ZK-PBF, which is the tail number of the Virgin Samoa aircraft. The texture code will be automatically applied to the Texture folder and also it will be entered into the 737-800WL aircraft.cfg file.

Great job on the paint, Steven, and thanks for your work on this. It'll be fun to fly this model between Apia and NZAA/YSSY.

Jev,

Thanks for the help with the install clarification! I didn't realize the Livery Manager would let you enter a different texture extension. That way is a lot simpler.

Glad you like the paint job. The screen shots I took were in DX10 mode and the engine pattern doesn't show up well. I normally fly in DX9 mode as I like sharp aircraft markings. Most if not all my screen shots for uploads are taken in DX9 mode. I know the DX10 anti-aliasing issue is in the FSX code. I'm hopeful that someday someone in the community with the skills will come up with a mod or figure out a way to fix that.

I know exactly what you mean about the gold color. On the original livery it looked more gold. Initially I thought that was the color they carried over to the newer livery but it some pictures it appears to be more of a gold/orange color. I wish I could find better examples.

Couldn't agree more about Alaska, what a fantastic place. A small state of Alaska logo would be a very nice additional detail.

Original livery, it looks more gold here. Not sure this link will work, it's to a post card that was sold on ebay...

The "gold" looks darker here:

Thanks again for this beauty. The Samoan "tat-toos" are exquisite!

The actual Kokoda Badge is more bronze than on the aircraft. http://www.kokodatreks.com/ contains details of the badge.

I still have my friends trying to get more pics!

Thanks for the research. I don't want to attempt the livery unless I can make it realistic. So we'll see how it goes as far as the missing pieces/info. We just don't have enough material/reference information to start yet. I have the Wien Air Alaska bird to finish this week and that other livery (Shenzhen Airlines B738..hope I spelled that right) after the Wien livery.

My personal list is on hold for a little bit...lol.
