Life-Limit Failures

Featured Replies

Very much looking forward to the release of the NGX, and I am very pleased to see that a in-service failure option has been included, based on component life limits. I assume that the aircraft has a "state" file associated with it that is continually updated with total (to date) flight hours, engine cycles, landings, APU hours etc, in order to know when a specific component has reached the end of its service life. My question: is this specific to the exact livery/airline option loaded? In other words, if I load an American 800, starting at "factory new" zero-time hours and cycles, put 200 flight hours on it, then change to a Delta 800 (also starting a zero-time), and put 100 hours on that airframe - if I then go back to the American airframe, will the (200) accumulated hours and cycles for the first aircraft be preserved? Thanks to everyone at PMDG for all your hard work bringing this dream to fruition! Jim Barrett

Adding to Jim's question...Let's say that some months ahead I decide to format my PC to 'clean' it. Will I be able to backup the life-time data and then copy it to the fresh system, so that I won't lose my accumulated hours in the NGX?

To also add to this question is it possible to upload this data to a server and have it be re-download this at will for lets say a Virtual Airline feature

Well A2A's new Captain of the Ship add on (highly recommended) uses a simple .dat file. I backed mine up to Google Mail and downloaded it after this computer build. Easy as pie... or cake. I'm sure there will be something similar if flight hours and usage is recorded.

I do believe Ryan stated the other day that it's down to the aircraft tail number, so yes :)

Yes, down to the airframe level. Yes you can back the files up. We're way ahead of you on the VA download idea too (though won't happen right away)

Next will have a virtual "Hog Log" so we know which tails to avoid flying. smile.pngLooking forward to release. Todd

It would also be great if one could accelerate the rate of wear-and-tear (without having to turn on specific failures by hand). I suppose some of us will be maniac enough to ride their planes down to the moment when engines are so old that they start to fail, and the fuselage gets holes in it - but the majority, I suppose still have some other obligations in life - sleep, food, etc. :) cheers!Jakub

+1I would think that option does exist since we cannot possibly put the amount of hours on a virtual airfframe compared to a real one. Would be nice to fly with a proper MEL at your VA.FRED
