July 31, 201114 yr but isn't it a little waste of money just to upgrade from an i7 870 to an i5 2500 ? Isn't that only 5fps more in fsx ? P.L. TranAMD Ryzen 5800x; 32 GB Ram; EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3; Win10 64 Bit
July 31, 201114 yr Author I might rather get the 2600k :)Guess we will see :) going to get the plane first Marc M.
July 31, 201114 yr yeah it should work pretty fine on your old system ... I don't see why you would upgrade so soon ... P.L. TranAMD Ryzen 5800x; 32 GB Ram; EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3; Win10 64 Bit
July 31, 201114 yr yeah it should work pretty fine on your old system ... I don't see why you would upgrade so soon ...I went from an i7 960 to this rig... I'm glad I did, honestly. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
July 31, 201114 yr It's like a 30% faster.Marc you don't seem to understand that the 2600K is not faster than the 2500K (only 100MHz) and if you are not OCing it makes no sense to get the "K" version since it's the same thing but unlocked for overclocking
July 31, 201114 yr wow maybe I should upgrade in the near future too ?how was the stock 2600k compared to an oc i7 960 ? P.L. TranAMD Ryzen 5800x; 32 GB Ram; EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3; Win10 64 Bit
July 31, 201114 yr wow maybe I should upgrade in the near future too ?how was the stock 2600k compared to an oc i7 960 ?Roughly the same, roughly. It really started to shine when I broke through 4GHz (which took literally 30 seconds and a single change in the bios). At the current overclock, the highest temps I'm seeing in Prime95 is 65C. My 960 at 4.2 was hitting 75-76 on the hottest core. If I hadn't gotten a great deal on the MOBO and happened to have came into some extra summer job cash, I would not have made the upgrade. Rather or not the performance increase was worth the $400 I spent is up to individual preference/budget. To me, it was, and I'll probably have this PC for the next 2 years unless something profound happens. Marc, take heed: If you're not overclocking, avoid the "K" version as Dario has mentioned. He won't steer you the wrong way. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
July 31, 201114 yr What do you guys think of these 2 pc's? I can tell you the I7 2600k is going to rock! I just bought one myself and it does outperform most processors, specifically in the gaming world. It will beat out even the new extremes that cost a lot more $ as well; and it will handle a 4.0GHz overclock no problem. Go with the 2600k, I can't emphasize it enough. The SSD are awsome, and as far as memory if you want you can stick with 1333MHz FSB since therte is no processor that is made that deals with higher speeds, they simply downclock it to 1333 anyway. The choice is really yours on that one though. VRTodd ATP MEL Commercial SEL B-747, BE-300, BE-400, DHC8, ERJ 170/190, MU-300 C-17A Globemaster III
July 31, 201114 yr thanks for the infos ...if i'm disapointed with the ngx performance which I doubt I'll try to OC and if thats not enough getting the i7 2600 and try for 4.8 too :) P.L. TranAMD Ryzen 5800x; 32 GB Ram; EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3; Win10 64 Bit

July 31, 201114 yr I think the GTX 580 and 2000MHz memory is too much. But a good cooler is mandatory and maybe an SSD would be nice. July 31, 201114 yr The SSD is a waste, man. The 560 or 570 are alright. I'd get the 570 is I could do it over. And 1600MHz is the way to go. No more, no less. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

SSD's are great, if money is not a problem then go for it, waiting around 10 secs to load up any flight in any scenery is great, about 5 secs for FSX to load. I can't play it on an old drive, I fall asleep waiting. A waste is not overclocking the 2600k. You can have it running so much faster with 10 mins of installing it, it's that easy. -Iain Watson-

It was a waste to me. As you know, I say this knowing that it's up to personal opinion and budget. At an average of $1.50 per GB, I'd say grossly a waste. I made the Newegg order knowing good and well this would be the case, and I wasn't surprised when I installed it that I had been right. EDIT: How many times have I had this conversation with someone?! ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
