Horrible Framerates

Featured Replies

First off, thanks to PMDG. The NGx is beautiful. Almost perfect. However, I've been getting horrible performance and I don't know why. I have an i7 [email protected], 6 gigs RAM, ATI radeon 5770@ 1gig vram running W7 pro x64 bit. Fsx has service pack 2 and it runs like crap, even with the default a/c. And considering the specs I have, and that I can easily run crysis2 on ultra high with no lag, I don't think I've got a slow computer by any means. Thanks for any help, Tyler St. Peter

Try completely removing your ATI drivers using special removing software and follow the instructions to a tee and reinstall latest ATI drivers clean. Google it. My experience with ATI drivers and FS is not that good. I am sure others will concur. But as always YMMV. Hope it helps,

As you hopefully know by now, FSX can't be compared to Crysis. Those FPS games always run better... they're just one small map. Your system is decent, though the Radeon card might be holding you back. AMD (aka ATI)'s drivers suck for FSX, especially in clouds. Nvidia has always been king in the FS world. I recommend trying the Nick N guide and if that doesn't work the bojote web site:http://www.simforums.com/forums/setting-up-fsx-and-how-to-tune-it_topic29041.htmlhttp://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html

Wish this ATI bashing would stop! I run a 6970 at 5760x1080, i have NO issues at all, smooth in every area full details, only dynamic traffic off!

Don't know if this was directed towards me. And I do not bash ATI cards. Once you get the drivers installed properly they are great! But a lot of people are having problems when updating their ATI drivers. And the only thing that solves this issue is a complete wipe out and install. Cheers,

Ditto, previous drivers have sucked... I think the catalyst 11.7's are actually working quite well. And to the guy with the 69xx series card - they are far better than the 5xxx series cards.

No not at you mate... Just in general, the community doesn't have a good thing to say about them. My experience is different, i don't like nVidia cards, ATI (actually AMD) have never given me a problem, even if it sounds like a 737 taking off! LOL.gif

Of course you are right, but nobody says the 5xxx are bad cards; or bad for fs. It's always ATI are bad for flight sim, and it's not true anymore, i am personally not convinced it ever was.

I think you might want to do a clean install on the hard drive. I had horible performance when I purchased the MD-11. That was due to the fact that I didn't update my system for over 6 months, drivers etc. If you do everything from scratch, it should run just fine. After the new install on the fresh HD, run the tweaks, Then install your NGX. Then tell us how your fps is. Here is what I keep my settings at: Level of Detail: LargeMesh: 100%Mesh Res: 10MTexture: 15cmWater effects: Lowest (no different looking than FS9)Scenery Complexity: NormalAutogen: NormalGround shadows: NoSpeacil effects: HighAirliine traffic: Off (I use the UT2 utility for that)General Aviation: OffCars: 2% (Good enough to see a couple but not loose alot of FPS, we are flying not car watching)Boats: 0% Bloom and Glare effects are turned off. I am only running the following system: Core2Duo E8500+ 3.16gHzNvidia GTX 2954GB DDR3 Ram1 x 70GB HD (FSX)1 x 280GB (Windows 7 x64) Again, nothing speacil here. It's jsut the way you have to setup your system. You have a good card and it's not because of that. It would be the last thing I would check. I get around 20fps and a busy airport with the NGX. Yes, I maynot see all the lovely traffic driving by, but I can sure see my displays at a good framerate. Thanks,
