August 7, 201114 yr Hi all, I just wanted to say that I love the NGX; only have a few hours on it but it is really something. Everything works great, but performance could be improved. My system is a couple years old now, and not high performance by today's standards at all. Centrino 2.13Ghz with NVIDIA 9600MGS 1MB and 4GB RAM. Any sugguestions for how I can squeeze more performance out of the plane, not including getting a new system? I have made the tweaks PMDG sugguested in the introduction manual. Cruising, I get 30-35, but not consistently. They drop down to 15 or even 7 sometimes, creating an annoying lag. I do not have FPS limiter, and am running REX 2.0 Overdrive with HD clouds. Also, will the next update possibly help with the overall performance of the plane? (NOTE: I do realize due to the complex nature of the aircraft that performance issues are to be expected) Any help is appreciated, Morgan W Captain Morgan Wiley Delta Virtual Airlines Delta Boeing 737-800 Senior Executive KDTW Hub Manager Real World Student Pilot Cessna 152 Pilot
August 7, 201114 yr I hate to break it to you but I think it's safe to say the bottleneck is your hardware.
August 7, 201114 yr Author I agree, but I do take very good care of it. I have only a small fraction of memory being used, I defrag regularly, run disk cleanups, CC Cleaner, and the works. I get 30-35 in the 747-400. Captain Morgan Wiley Delta Virtual Airlines Delta Boeing 737-800 Senior Executive KDTW Hub Manager Real World Student Pilot Cessna 152 Pilot
August 7, 201114 yr Author I wonder if it would be possible to take it to a PC shop and have them upgrade the processor to something better..... Captain Morgan Wiley Delta Virtual Airlines Delta Boeing 737-800 Senior Executive KDTW Hub Manager Real World Student Pilot Cessna 152 Pilot
August 7, 201114 yr Related FPS question: I am assuming that video card memory is a strong contributor to FPS, correct ? Is it the biggest contributor ? Input will help me in decision making.ThanksZach zachlog

It's not likely to get any better. Chris Hicks

Actually, they do meet the minimum requirements.MinimumOS: Windows XP/Windows Vista/Windows 7 (latest service packs), Flight Simulator X with SP2 or Acceleration installed. Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD equivalentRAM: 2GB if only running the NGX, 4GB if running other addons (scenery, traffic etc)Video Card: DirectX 9 compatible with 512MB of video memory (examples: Nvidia 8800GT, AMD/ATI Radeon 4870) Captain Morgan Wiley Delta Virtual Airlines Delta Boeing 737-800 Senior Executive KDTW Hub Manager Real World Student Pilot Cessna 152 Pilot

August 7, 201114 yr have you looked into trying to overclock that processor? not sure if those centrinos are locked or not but that could be some free juice right there or maybe switch to the non-hd clouds, just set rex to use 1024 textures for everything, that made a pretty big difference on my old low-end videocard and still looked pretty good. like the others said tho, your system is gonna struggle a bit just the reality of it cheers-andy crosby
August 7, 201114 yr Author I was simply looking for help, other than getting a new system AS I STATED or being beaten down. I acknowledged it is old and outdated. Some people need to read. August 7, 201114 yr You're not being beaten down, Morgan. It's a simple fact. Your system is well below minimum. The Centrino clocked at 2.13GHz is an old Pentium M. Not a Core 2 equivalent. The Core 2's are having a tough enough time as it is. Not to mention it's mobile tech. I'm sorry. Just run minimum graphical settings. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
August 7, 201114 yr Author No, they don't. What part does not? I have the OS, it is a dual core processor, just not specifically a core 2 duo, I have the 4gb RAM, and 1 GB video memory. What do I not have? Captain Morgan Wiley Delta Virtual Airlines Delta Boeing 737-800 Senior Executive KDTW Hub Manager Real World Student Pilot Cessna 152 Pilot
August 7, 201114 yr Related FPS question: I am assuming that video card memory is a strong contributor to FPS, correct ? Is it the biggest contributor ? Input will help me in decision making.ThanksZach the relationship is somewhat complex, generally if your card has enough memory to hold all the textures it needs then adding more memory past that point won't help. but we're talking about probably 2gigs as a minimum where it's diminishing returns beyond that. going from 256megs to 1gig or something would be huge. the actual speed of how quickly it can throw polys at the screen is based more on the clock speed of the card and the processor type in it, having the extra memory just means it doesn't have to wait to load the textures in so frequently. cheers-andy crosby
