Would PMDG Ever Work Together With Microsoft? And the Future Of Flight Simulation

Featured Replies

Hi. I was wondering if PMDG would ever work with Microsoft in the future, to produce a Flight Simulation product. With these two companies who are biggest names in the Flight Sim world, together they would surley produce a stunning product. Its often seen in the replies in the forums that "due coding issues this cant be done" or "its the limitations of FSX" etc. Working together, Microsoft the experts in Windows based software and PMDG in making the addons. PMDG could say to Microsoft it would be really useful if you programmed the software this way so that would allow us to do that.Microsoft would then know the effect it would have on the system etc.It may even solve alot of the problems we read about in the Forums of CTD,Out of Memory and the many other issues with cfg files and software tweaking.Maybe one day a PMDG product could be included in the default product. That would be good advertsing for both companies. So as for the future of Flight Simulation. Will we ever move away from PC based/windows operating systems and maybe move towards something like an Xbox but purely dedicated to Flight Sim? Everyone with the same equipment, unpack it,plug it in and off you go flying with perfect frame rates, stunning scenery etc,no need to worry about memory, graphics cards, processors.Of course it would have Internet connection for updates and to download addons, but the great thing would be the addon would have been programmed around the software already in the box and optimized to work perfectly. We see stunning games on the Playstation and Xbox without the users ever having to worry about perfomance issues before they purchase. I agree it would be a nice team up. Heck while you're at it go for the gusto and get the REX team and all the other popular addon teams in on it too. Not like MS is hurting for cash. There was a MS Flight question a little while ago on these forums. In my own speculation, based upon comments that could not be confirmed or denied, it seems MS is looking to do a Steam/XBox live type of deal. I'm supposing it's like: MS: You make addons for our games/sim. We'll host the files. We get a cut on your addon sales, but we're the only distributor for Flight and it's addons, so customer traffic is garunteed.Addon developer: Ummm... How much of a cut?MS: (Insert unattractively large sum here)Addon developer: At this time, we aren't interested. Again pure speculation about miniscule factoids. It's what I believe to be the case.

Would be really cool but I doubt the world do it. Imagine that, booting up FSX for the first time and you have Rod teaching you how to fly the 737 with your REX clouds and runways, would be awesome!

There's been stuff chatted about MS Flight - the upcoming one...from what I gather it's all very hush-hush but the fact the PMDG team mentioned NDA's and such i'm pretty sure they at least have some lines of communication between to the two groups.

I pray this never happens. I'd rather want or prefer PMDG to fully integrate with Boeing and work in symbiosis with ORBX. Alliances with the publisher are never a good idea, just look at the gaming industry, its crap these days. I imagine PMDG being stressed by MS to complete a said aircraft by said time, without anymore place for the "when its done thing" - with a rush job emerging out of it. NEVER EVER.

It would probably be better if PMDG make their own Simulator from scratch than relying on Microsoft - but that would probably surely only come at a high price. MSFS although it has improved much over the years is and always has been a very poorly programmed Simulator and I consider FSX sort of left unfinished and completely out of date by now with today's available hardware (well FSX still needs todays hardware to even cope with the crappy code of yesterday...). I doubt very much that Microsoft will ever change their philosophy about this product in the future - for them it is just another game. How about a modern high quality Sim backbone which models physics, aerodynamics and environment realistically intigrated, that comes running stable without tons of individual tweaks out of the box ? With todays modern average hardware performance it should be possible to produce. AND it must be built from scratch completely even if there is no backward compatibility - it is time for something completely new.

I'm positive Microsoft and PMDG don't want the same things.

I wouldn't always say that

No, it's true. Microsoft wants a game that will appeal to EVERYBODY for the sake of reaching a broad audience, not a simulation, which means it will always be ridiculously dumbed down, unlike PMDG who has even worked with Boeing to develop an addon that's as close to the real thing as we will probably ever get outside a full motion sim.

Please give me proof where they said it's gonna be dumbed down and not have the option to be as realistic if not more realistic then FSX...

My point is most of us dont know what Flight is gonna be but I know it's not gonna be a dumbed down "game"

We do know it will have good graphics and level of detail and not a game
