Hardware topics should be posted in the hardware forums. Please also sign full name as per forum rules. It depends on what your budget is. The cheapest ones no. The top of the line ones should run FSX pretty well.

You can find cheaper solutions than alienware. Try cyberpowerpc.com. you can custom build it and they'll put it together for you if you can't build it yourself. If you can, then order parts through newegg.com

I have an Alienware desktop and it runs it 30fps locked without any issues. I'm very pleased with my Alienware. Used to build my own machines but with my eyesight going bad due to age and patience also going it was just easier to buy a preassembled computer.I72600K OC 4.1, 8 gb Ram, Nviida GTX 580, Liquid Cooling Sean

Home-build a laptop? Good luck with that! Not saying it's impossible, but...

LOL! My mistake! I always try and read things twice on these forums, as misinterpretations can happen easily. Guess I missed that somehow...

Sorry. NGX are you an AVSIM or PMDG moderator? Its all you seem to do. I read quite a lot of these threads, and you are moderating in the vast majority. Is moderating a hobby? Im not criticising, nahhh, im just making a tongue in cheek comment :) paul. oh, and I like your signature....its very big :)

No I don't work for PMDG and I'm not a moderator. I've talked to Ryan and his hands are full at the moment with the support tickets and actual support requests so forum rules are not being upheld the same. Someone's gotta do it :(

Yeah, building laptops is tough. Just ask Dell.Trevor

fair enough.

Don't be sucked in by marketing and a fancy logo. You will pay a premium for an ebe light in a case...or even a Dell for that matter. I've always built my own computers and it very easy to do, when you have researched it..AND you will buy the exact components required for the job ( I have bought a Dell before and their components are non standard - bad news for upgraders ) Why use a laptop for FSX....build or have someone build a desktop tower for you, that way you you can upgrade in the future. Laptops are static, tech wise and a waste of money long term especially for flight sim.

Chris Farrell

If he travels a lot, maybe a desktop is just not practical. The best laptops you can get are the ones with the desktop CPU's in them. I7 960's 980x's and 990x's.

About four years ago I got one of the first quad core extreme laptops, sli ati 3870's, 17" 1920x1200 display and it still runs fsx fine. I travel a lot for work. it also runs a 24" external monitor no problem. Lap top can work just fine but the one piece of advice I would give is buy the most advanced one you can afford at the time and that way you'll get the most life out of it. This one was close to $4K at the time. Been happy with it. At home I now have a gaming desktop machine.Dave
