  1. Hi allSeveral member have pointed out that one may as well just reinstall the NGX as opposed to updating. I went to retrieve my previous orders of the 8/900 and the 6/700 and I found that my order URL has expired. I assume that if I want to redownload the NGX installers I now require an extended download service (at cost)If so, I think I might just use the updates (which I know will work perfectly) and save a few penniesWhat do you guys think?CheersPaul Kent
  2. fairly sure that downloaded software cannot be refunded. Also I run the NGX fine (in FSX default scenery) with a 2.4GHz core2duo, 2MB RAM and an old 1GB nVidia graphics card. I run that on XP 32bit. The release version was fine, the first hotfix was fine and the second hotfix was fine. It must be your system. I hope that you do get the NGX to work either will SP1 or with other future updates, but dont hold your breath for the refund.
  3. Hi all.I'm looking for some advice as to which private jet you think is best in FSX. I'm looking for good systems, flight dynamics etc.I love the ngx, the real air duke and would a nippy wee private jet to buzz around the skies in. I have heard eaglesoft are good??Thanks, paul
  4. you can press APP before even capturing the LOC. Not sure if you are meant to but it does work. You might be in HDG SEL or LNAV and VNAV PTH or ALT HOLD and under this when pressing APP you will have LOC and G/S modes in white, meaning that they are armed, and become active once you are close to the extended centreline and glideslope
  5. And...When you wish your car was RNAV equipped and had an FMC/CDU for navigation instead of boring old GPS
  6. ...when you drive your car with one hand on the side of the steering wheel and the other on the gear stick because it would be irresponsible to remove your hand from the 'thrust levers' whilst acting as Pilot Flying.Which is exactly how I drive :)Also...When you refer to driving the minor roads before getting on the highway as the 'taxi out' and then request the before take off checklist whilst on the 'on ramp'
  7. this is an interesting topic, especially for a physicist (by degree) like myself. Those explanations seem pretty good to me. Its important to stress, that an unbalanced force will cause an acceleration. Even in a steady climb there is no acceleration, so W=L and T=D. Its like circular motion at constant speed.....despite speed remaining constant there is a change of direction and hence a change in velocity, hence there must be an acceleration. if an engine produces 20,000lb of thrust then it produces 20000/2.2*9.8N of force 89,000N. Now newtons second law states that the Force is equal to the rate of change of momentum (mv) which assuming the mass is constant (reasonable) reduces to F=ma. The F of course is the unbalanced force. But of course there is friction initially between the tyres and tarmac. This is the static friction. Wikipedia states that the coefficient of static friction is 1 for dry tarmac on rubber, so the static friction on an aircraft weighing 9.1T would be F_static=c*mg=1*9100*9.8. This gives a static friction of 89000N. In this case the unbalanced force is (thrust-friction) is zero and there will be no acceleration. In space, in the absence of friction the acceleration would be Thrust/mass=89000/9100=9.8m/s2, or 1g Since an aircraft would have two engines, the thrust would be 178,000N. With the friction of 89000N the acceleration would be 89000/9100=9.8m/s2 or 1g So we can think of thrust as the force required to accelerate a mass at 1g in the absence of friction. So a 20K lb engine can move a 20k lb aircraft at an acceleration of 1g with no friction hope that helps paul
  8. EGPB sumburgh....scenery from scotflight.
  9. yep, I also taxi solely by looking at GS
  10. speedtape doesnt read zero when stationary. It is only alive at >45 kts
  11. NO NEED TO SHOUT yeah I hear it as a one toned chime also, but since the sounds are recorded from the actual NG i assume that what I hear is accurate. Perhaps the two tone chime is one heard as a single tone from within the flightdeck.
  12. i wouldnt go above OPT. Try FL350, going higher than this and climb will be slow. This means a longer time at a higher thrust setting than CRZ which costs fuel/money.
  13. so you have been asked to help with enforcing policy whilst they are busy?
  14. in the CRZ page, what is the OPT/MAX altitude?
  15. Sorry. NGX are you an AVSIM or PMDG moderator? Its all you seem to do. I read quite a lot of these threads, and you are moderating in the vast majority. Is moderating a hobby? Im not criticising, nahhh, im just making a tongue in cheek comment :) paul. oh, and I like your signature....its very big :)
  16. if you reach DA(H) (decision altitude(height)) and cannot see the runway or its approach lighting then you have to go around. Either try the approach again or go to an alternate destination. Of course, in the sim, do what you want.
  17. if you have realistic A/P engagement on then to engage the A/P you need to have the aircraft trimmed (or close to trimmed) and have less than a certain amount of force being applied to the yoke. If you push the yoke too far with A/P on the A/P will diengage I believe.
  18. Thanks Lj. Thats what I thought....
  19. when the repaints are completed, will they be uploaded to the PMDG addon livery section, or the AVSIM library? thanking you
  20. easy way to fly a DME arc... go to the fix page, type the name of the fix around which the ARC is based. In this case, DLH. Just below this you can enter radial and distance info. Type /15 and enter it using LSK3L (i think). This draws a 15nm ring around DLH. If you want you can add specific radials, eg you might want R095. Enter 095 below /15 entry. It will show the 098 radial from DLH. I use this method all the time flying in to sumburgh, it has a direct arrival via a 10DME arc.
  21. That sounds right, apart from the airbus. While FSX is crying out for a good airbus, I cant see PMDG compromising a good working relationship with boeing. If they do FBW it will most likely be the 787, but not before they have some good information for it. I am sure PMDG have the 787 in mind somewhere, but I am not convinced that it is one of their secret projects. I think a remake of the 747 is, but it will be a while before hard information comes through about the 787 but i dont wish to speculate on PMDG's future developments because it serves no purpose. I only offer my own opinion on this matter
  22. i think you can negate having the control column centred and have the a/c in trim by disabling the 'realistic autopilot engagement option' within the FMS menu sytem. I think it is PMDG Setup-equipment, but I could be wrong paul
  23. Hi All, PMDG... I have flown several flights, feeling my way through operating the NGX, and thought I would share some random musings. There is a weird feeling I get when I fly this. I dont know, I cant describe it, and I cant put my finger on it. Its when you finish your flight and you just smile. You dont know why you are smiling, it just makes you happy. I dont have a great PC for FSX. I have a laptop, and at default scenery I can get high teens in the VC. This statement is mind blowing in itself. I am flying the most complex addon ever made, on a laptop. This speaks to the simply superb job done in streamlining this thing. This creation, the PMDG 737NGX, is actually wonderful. Just wonderful. I like the 747X, the LevelD 767 and the EJets v2. I loaded up these guys to compare to the NGX. Different world. Every single aspect of it is just a treat. I almost cant express how complete this thing is. And Im not just saying this because Im a PMDG ######. I mean it. They wanted to raise the bar with this product. Well they have done it. In fact its not a step up on other products. Its an entire flight of stairs up. How long before other companies make a similar product? I would say years. I can make a comparison. I play golf. Golf has changed a lot since the arrival of Tiger Woods in 1996. Fan numbers at tour events has increased dramatically, prize money has skyrocketed, golfers everywhere are adopting his keep in shape philosophy. Yes, he has done some very bad things off the course, but it cannot be argued that the standard of players, and the number of players has increased vastly, due to this guy. People have had to raise their game, to compete with him. The same, I feel has occurred here with the NGX. This creation, I believe will be a defining moment. I think we are entering a new era. So PMDG, thanks. You have changed Flight Sim forever. Well done Thanks for reading Paul Kent ps, sorry if this post was drivel.... :)
