Benefits of overclocking

OK, I gave it a boost up to 4.2 and now the stutters are MUCH worse! Every second the ground and water sticks and stutters. The frames are still good and the aircraft are still responsive though.

Try these major tweaks: [JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=14 [bufferPools]PoolSize=30000 Lock fps at 30 and set water to High 2x. Set your AG at Dense and increase it if clock speed allows. BTW: If you have not done so, update to the latest nvidia driver.

Those are the current BP and affinity mask settings I use. I've tried almost all BP and AM settings. These seem the most stable so I always revert back when I try something else with no luck. Same goes for autogen. I have it all the way right because it also gives me the best performance. My frames are unlimited in FSX and locked at 30 externally I'm using driver 280.26. Is that the latest one I'm inlcuding a couple screens. The first is HWMonitor after I went for a short hop. Tell me if there is something off with the temps or volts. The second is just my processes off the taks manager. Its stuttering like I have something else running in the background but I don't see it.

Sorry to hear FSX isn't running smooth for you... you definitely have the rig to achieve great performance! I'm certainly not an expert with OC'ing, but your vcore seems a little low for a 4.2 OC. I ran a 4.1 OC and had a vcore of 1.25 or something, and tonight went to 4.3 with the same number, all through the BIOS. At this point though it doesn't sound like the issue is necessarily hardware. I haven't seen your other posts but which version of FSX do you have ('regular', acceleration, gold, etc).

It must be a problem that persisted before OC'ing. For some reason though I've always had a suspicion that it was hardware related or installation related - partly because I put it together myself courtesy of youtube :S - but I had it checked over by someone local and they said it all looked fine. Still though, when you buy a lot of parts and get them shipped you expect something not to work. I'm using acceleration.Maybe this should be moved to the hardware forum. Sorry admin

I have a not so hot system, and get low FPS. However it's smooth, very smooth, and with the rare stutter. FSX anti-anliasing on, and FSX Anisotropic filtering on. Sencery very dense, Autogen dense. NO road trafffic. Airport denisty medium. I run FSX in windowed mode. This made a hugh difference and I can't explain why.. I run a classic windows theme (NO AERO). FSX and every app. that FSX uses is excuded from virus checks & scans. All my external apps for FSX run on Core 1 and 2 (cores being 0,1,2,3). And lastly, and fresh reboot before I fly.... err sim. I get 9 FPS at KJFK (Traffic addon at 75%) in complex aircraft. However is very smooth believe it or not. Most other airports I get mid teens and at altitude and away from major airports I get mid twenties. I was getting very fustrated chasing frames per second and have since turned them off.. As long as the sim is smooth who cares.

Cheers;

hmm thanks Solren. I also followed nicks guides to the letter 4x. Interesting thing about Bojote's tweaker, I've used it several times and it always comes up with different values for me. Windowed mode is a slide show

Drew, Try using the 270 drivers. If that doesn't do it, you could try only one ram stick. I have a feeling that the video drivers are the problem and it might require a clean install of windows. Forget about OC until you solve the stutter problem.

Do the 270 drivers work with inspector. Can't get it configured

I am sure OCing is worth trying but I am running a 2600K at the default 3.4 GHZ and FSX is running very smoothly with no stutters. YMMV. Win7 64Bit2600K @3.4GHZGTX5808GB RAM @ 1333MHZ
You should oc your 2600K, it's designed for it, and if you have an ASUS mobo, i.e. P8P67 Deluxe, you should have installed AI Suite II, a nice utility that will oc your CPU stable until you decide to stop, with a few mouse clicks, and only one start... in only a few minutes (less than 5) :) I believe that other mobos designed for Sandy bridge may have a similar utility. Cheers.

The SB 2500k & 2600k are excellent over clockers. and with good mobo it will work excellently.

If windowed mode is a slideshow set your Windows taskbar to auto-hide.
