Thanks for the great instruction. It works. Sadly this mod did not improve my major stutters.

Damn. Did you disable windows automatic updates? Is any other odd ball program running? Like java updater, or anti-virus updates etc?

Actually one more thing, how can I change the frame limit from the default of 30?

I did disable updates. Only other program that is running is anti-virus but I excluded it from searching the FSX file

F11 decrease F12 increase. Have you tried without the AV running?

In the "start...." line. To set the desired fps [ /f:x ], the default is 30. If you have Triplehead2Go - it's [ /f:90 ]. Glad it helped get you going!

I get short - medium hard stutters every second or every other second. Doesn't matter where I am. Its like my video card can't keep up. I have better performance with all sliders right which seems kind of condradictory. I also have better performance with frames closer to 60. I have tried many different installations and a reinstall of windows 7, but the same stutters reappear.

Are you using EZCA? I found this caused a hesitation about every 4 seconds. It's been cleared now, for months but I have no memory of how I fixed it.

Yes I have tried without AV running. I didn't notice a difference. I notice a big difference when I disable it on my laptop, but not this computer. The CPU is one hell of a performer as you know. It must be something else getting in the way

No, not using that

Can you post pics of your slider settings at your earliest convenience? Also, when looking at your desktop, after a fresh boot, open task manager and see what your CPU is doing? Is it idle or spiking every few seconds?

Ok thanks Ryan. Here are my slider settings plus a couple shots of the task manager and HWMonitor after a short 3 min flight. uh...I don't know what happend to the rest of them

Paul, I have a question for you. I removed the FPS limiter 2.0 by deleting the bat file and each file from the FSX directory, and now I'm having major variances fps. it will jump from 9 to 75 then back again. Any ideas?

For fun, what happens if you completely kill your AI road traffic? (If running UTX be sure to disable it in there too) You have far less processes running than I do but I don't run with any road traffic (and sometimes zero AI traffic, like when online).

I didn't notice a huge difference. I think it gave me a couple of extra fps to work with but I didn't notice an improvement in smoothness.

Now you need to lock your fps within the FSX settings dialogue. This is the default way that FSX works. When it can go fasssssst - it does, but then it has to do something that requires lots of graphics, or texture changes, it slows to a walk. Locking the files at 30 allows the proc(s) to schedule work in a more orderly fashion. If your proc is in the order of 5 gig or more the intense operations are over more quickly, so that your fps drop isn't as drastic. By the way - you've not mentioned your proc speed........

Hi again, Drew. Just looking at your settings: if you are not at 4gig or above - make these changes all together, see what the result is, and then add back the ones you consider necessary:- Get rid of Lens Flare;Set LOD at the middle;set Mesh Complexity 75;Set Mesh resolution or two to the left;Same with Texture Resolution; If you're using Shaders v3.0 - set water at High 2.xIf you're not using Shaders v3.0 - set water at High 1.xSet Scenery Complexity at Very DenseSet Autogen at DenseSet Cloud Detail at Low or MediumCustomize traffic per the type of flight you're doing:i.e. VFR:-AI - 5%GA - 25%Road - 15%Ship and boat zero If Airline flying:-AI - 25%GA - 0%Road - 10%Ship and boat - 0% In your fsx.cfg - set or add this line to your [Main] section:FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.15. If you get blurring of your roads with this setting, move it to 20. The default is 33. This line is not normally present in the cfg file. These changes will put your FSX at a level that the pc can or should handle at 3.4 gig. It will certainly make a difference to your smoothness.. Try it, and get back here; there are other things that can be applied, too. Cheers.
