Elevators over reacting

Featured Replies

Running FSX Gold deluxe @ acceleration on Windows 7. I have a Saitek pro flight yoke, rudder and throttle quad. Has been working fairly well until I started have problems with the rudder over reacting causing flight between stalls and dives. Saitek tried setting the controls but hasn't solved the problem. They suggest I reinstall FSX, which is a pain and I'll lose all my logbook, flight records etc. Before I do this does anyone have another option? I've tried flying the Cessna 172 and the Mooney with same results. If I do have to reinstall FSX should it go into it's own folder as some have suggested or let it install in default?

Did the sensitivity settings change? Try to change the sliders under controls...

The best thing you can do for yourself is make absolutely all hardware assignments and calibrations from within FSUIPC. You will never look back! Also make sure you are using SPAD. Cheers, - jahman.

i constantly have had this problem, even before i got my saitek flight yoke, my solution is to constantly have a finger on my elevator trim buttons..

Sorry but rudder or elevator?

That rather negates the point of them being trim controls, doesn't it? Al

Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

some aircraft such as the default CRJ, when getting up to speed on the runway, i dont even have to pull back on the yoke or stick to get the plane off the ground, then the nose keeps going up to the point of stalling out, once i get out of the stall, the nose keeps wanting to point upwards and stall again. if i want to climb at a normal rate without autopilot, i have to find the right angle, then push the yoke/stick forward almost half way to maintain that normal climb. to avoid this, i have to constantly set the elevator trim so that i can maintain the angle i want to fly at, but when i move the elevator axis, this seems to reset the trim and i have to do it again

Joystick is out of calibration.

i dont think its the joystick, at least for my problem. the same thing happens when i dont have any controllers in, so all that is in use is the keyboard

And btw if you do need to reinstall as an absolute last resort you can save your logbook and rewards files and actually most anything else you choose such as panels and aircraft configs and add them back later.

Try starting FS with the default flight (Friday Harbour) and not from one that you've saved. If it works OK, I'll tell you what the problem was :-) Edit: Although what Brett says below is true, that isn't your problem as I understand that you are needing to constantly apply trim to fly, therefore something else must be constantly trying to apply opposite trim and you've said it also does the same thing when you unplug your controllers. You will very probably find that you are loading a saved flight that has the AP on, sounds weird I know, but just try the Friday Harbour flight from first starting FS via the menu.

Cheers

A few of the default models are ridiculously sensitive.. each in its own way. Fixing this by control calibration, effects every model equally. What works for me, is to make the fixes model specific, by editing its .. 'aircraft.cfg' .. file, in this paraggraph... [flight_tuning]cruise_lift_scalar = 1.0parasite_drag_scalar = 1.0induced_drag_scalar = 1.0elevator_effectiveness = 1.0aileron_effectiveness = 1.0rudder_effectiveness = 1.0pitch_stability = 1.0roll_stability = 1.0yaw_stability = 1.0elevator_trim_effectiveness = 1.0aileron_trim_effectiveness = 1.0rudder_trim_effectiveness = 1.0 (Make a backup!) .. Increase/decrease the number(s) '1.0', by +/- 0.1 to get close.. then fine-tune by +/- 0.05 .. and even +/- 0.01, if needed.

It really is a lot easier to use FSUIPC instead, where you can calibrate controls per aircraft. Cheers, - jahman.

Getting a third-party tool or tweaknig .cfg files is something you do only when FSX works normally. It should not be necessary in order to maintain control of the aircraft. Yes, the default aircraft are a little "touchy", but not unflyable at all. I'm assuming you're talking about the elevator, even though you said "rudder" in the text. 1. First you need to determine whether it's a problem with the yoke itself or if the problem exists in FSX. So plug in your yoke and right-click on it under Devices and Printers in Windows, then choose Game controller settings and then double-click on "Saitek Pro Flight Yoke". The cross in the white box should be centered when you're not touching the yoke. If you pull back on the yoke, it should move smoothly downwards, no jitters or sudden jumps. If you push forward, it should move forward smoothly. If it doesn't, there's your problem. 2. If the cross moved normally, you can start FSX. Start by double-checking the calibration by clicking the Calibrate button under Controls from the FSX main menu. If that looks normal, check the settings in FSX. Switch to Advanced Controls. Sensitivity should be halfway, Null Zone according to personal preference (usually 0% or just a few notches). 3. Under the "Control Axes" tab, make sure Elevator is assigned to the Y Axis of the Saitek Pro Flight Yoke, and the Inverted box is cleared. Switch to the pedals and make sure you haven't also assigned something there to the Elevator by accident. 4. If you have been "fighting the autopilot", for example trying to descend by pushing the yoke forward with the autopilot still engaged and set to hold the altitude, the autopilot will set the trim to an extreme nose-up position. If you then always start from this flight, that configuration will remain.
