September FSX and Flight Comparison Screenshots

Recommended Posts

Couldn't care less. I wouldn't expect a Toyota to perform like a Ferarri. Quality comes at a cost, and hopefully software developers make their programs scalable so they can be used at a variety of computers.

What plane are you going to fly 10 feet off the street? Oh, a chopper right?!
A Piper Cub maybe?

Any aircraft know to man...briefly.

Xplane 10 really intrigues me but every screenshot they've released seems to be framed pretty well. I can't seem to find any screenshots of just a straight view of open cityscape ahead out of a VC. Or an external shot showing the landscape for miles. I want to see what the landclass, autogen, and textures actually look like in practice. Give us some videos of it in action. If it's really being released in three months (Christmas) then I'd expect much more to be shown to this point. Let's see the AI system at work. Let's see what default airports are going to look like across the globe (I realize they have some screenshots of a staged airport to show off their technology). Show us the flight dynamics at work. Show us your weather system, etc. We may know more about Xplane 10 than Flight but it's not much more at this point and it's mostly just feature lists right now.

The X-Plane developers are very forthcoming with detailed information about XP10. See their blog http://www.x-plane.com/blog/ Regarding autogen in XP10 the Sept 07 post (http://www.x-plane.c...nd-the-airports) talks about using hardware instancing

On machines with new video cards, we use instancing to draw OBJs if they are simple enough (e.g. no animation, no material attributes). This means that the cost of very small, simple objects is much lower than in version 9. Thus you can place a lot of clutter on the apron and it shouldn’t hurt performance too much

I want a sim that looks like the first video biggrin.pngMaybe someday we will, but there's a lot of things going on there.

Very relevant if you ask me. XP10 is the only competitor to Flight and as such the most important point of reference.

Same can be said about some of the detail that's going into Flight. (E.g. that battleship pic from a while back.) That said, not everybody uses MSFS/XP to fly in the flight levels for hours on end in boring airliners with the autopilot on. I for one appreciate the emphasis on general aviation that Flight appears to be taking rather than flying airliners all day.

I've been to the blog many times. I never said they aren't giving information. I said it's always framed a certain way and carefully. A bunch of technical speak on autogen tells me nothing about how it looks. How about some pictures or a video of the autogen in action that aren't street level? A simple video of a plane just flying around would suffice. At this point a simple wide shot of a city would go a long way to answering some of my questions about autogen, landclass, and textures. Three months out you'd think we'd have plenty of those kinds of shots by now. Hadn't seen the AI video so that's cool.

From what i understand that screenshot of the urban scenery is in a sense still XP9, but with the new autogen routines built in. We've yet to see the first screenshots of XP10 with the new global scenery rendered.. they're still working on the final cut for the global scenery. So i expect things to look different in the end, if only because they're now using OSM to provide that data for their roads and water, which will hopefully finally solve the problem of unrealistic straight roads draped over mountaintops with traffic magnetically sticking to it like climbing ants.. lol XP9 was so much fun sometines. On top of that they'r enow going to use bezier curves to plot out the roads (and i assume the water), which saves data and makes things look much better. That said, i don't see why autogen with this level of detail shouldn't run smoothly.. you can get similarly detailed autogen in FSX, and even on my ageing machine it runs well. XP10 will make much better use of all the new hardware though, so i imagine having autogen like that won't be a problem. This is XPlane's big chance of (finally) overtaking FSX when it comes to graphics. Hopefully they'll work on the flight models as well, though i already liked XP9's flight model for the most part, as long as you stay within the boundaries of the performance envelope of a given airplane.

Guys, lets not turn this into an X-Plane discussion thread.
Why not, don't we have Prepaid3D discussion in the Flight's section?

Hopefully that answers your question.

LOL and people think that this game will run nicely on an average PC... LOL laugh.pngLMAO.gifLMAO.gif
Yeah and I think I'll keep my 3D trees as well LOL. Actually for a product being release at the end of the year, we've seen precious little in the way of screenshots and features, got a feeling it will be delayed again... Dave.

How could you like XP10's flight model if it hasn't been released?
