I've seen those "special" options too but haven't tried them and think I'll stick to the settings I use now since with tonight's discovery I ALMOST got rid of all shimmering but without loosing any FPS. For anyone interested and with a similar setup as I have these are the settings I'm using at the moment. Details that might be important are I'm always running FSX in full screen mode and I'm using a GTX 480 Gfx card using the latest Nvidia driver (280.26) Nvidia Inspector AA Transparency Multisampling DisabledAA Transparency Supersampling Off / MultisamplingAA 8xSAF Application ControlledTexture Filtering - Negative LOD bias ClampTexture Filtering - Quality High qualityVertical Sync Force On FSX AA UncheckedFiltering Anisotropic

Richard, try setting "AA Transparency Supersampling" to 2x or 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling if you haven't already.

I have always used sparse grid after reading one of your posts Dazz, but with the NGX it causes bad shimmering on the overhead. I have had to use, like above, App controlled, and AF set in FSX, Everything is smooth No stutters. Great IQ. go figure. Using AA_MODE_METHOD_SUPERVCAA_64X_4v12.

System: MSFS2024, ASUS Rog Stryx Z790-A,  Intel i9-14900KF,  Asus ROG Ryujin III 360 , Asus Hyperion Case,Rog Stryx 4090 OC, Samsung 970 EVO M.2 SSD, 1Tb Samsung 860 EVO SSD,64Gb G Skill Memory, Asus Aura 1200W Gold PSU,Win 11 ,LG C4 48" 4K OLED Screen., Airbus TCA Full Kit, Stream Deck XL. Hey Richard. I'm still fiddling too. I thought i had found a great way to get rid of just about all of the shimmers. I saw a setting in a thread which i tried, but it hit my frames too hard for my liking.I set my AA in Inspector to AA_MODE_METHOD_SUPERVCAA_64X_4v12. The results were pretty impressive until i landed at Aerosoft Amsterdam x. Thats when i got the slide show. It seemed to be ok with NGX because as you know, i Mipmapped NGX, but as soon as i got near addon scenery my FPS dropped more than normal.Regards,
Is it only EHAM that you get a slide show Rick ?

Yeah, I also use AF app controlled, and AA_MODE_METHOD_SUPERVCAA_64X_4v12 looks great, very true, but I can't run both SGSS & 4v12, so since I tend to like SGSS better I run 8xS instead.Weird Julian, I don't get any shimmering in the overhead panel with 4xSGSS Well, I'm adding mipmaps to my textures now. I'm curious about this. Thanks Ioan and tak Richard for sharing :)

Would you post a screeenshot of the nVidia Insp screen so I can see all your settings. I am still seeking the holy grail of settings. Ray

EHAM is the worst Julian. I do get better frame rates at KSFO where i have gone around for a drive so to speak and depending on how many AI aircraft and moving airport vehicles i am close to, i have had as high as 33fps (i am limited to 30) and as low as 17 (for split seconds). This is a testament to FlightBeam, because their detail is amazing. That's using AA_MODE_METHOD_SUPERVCAA_64X_4v12. I can get about the same at EHAM if i go to 8sq.

Richard, try setting "AA Transparency Supersampling" to 2x or 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling if you haven't already.
Thanks for the tip, just tried it and it seems to get rid of the shimmering in the same way as setting AF to 'Application Controlled' in Inspector and then use Anisotropic in FSX. Wonder what are the PROS and CONS for these two methods compared to each other? Reason I haven't even tried playing with this Transparency setting before is when I ran Bojote's automated fsx.cfg tweak I was recommended to always keep this setting to OFF for improved smoothness when using a GTX480 card. I'll do my next flight(s) trying this Sparse Grid (went with 8x) setting and see how things look both from a IQ and FPS perspective and then if I'm not happy I'll do the same thing using the AF App Controlled method to compare and to finally decide which method works best in my case. I think I said it in the beginning of this thread or might have been some other similar thread but boy do I hope we won't have to spend all this tweaking time in MS Flight letting us spend that time actually flying instead smile.png !!!

Dazz, I;m just doing some multiple flights around Europe to see how my settings hold up. Had FSX running now with the NGX for about 10 hours, and smooth as silk so far.LXGB-LEPA-LSGG=EGBB. The big test will be EHAM wgich I will try tomorrow. Cheers

Hi Ray, I am using the same settings as Dazz, except Transperecy OFF, and for AA I use AA_MODE_METHOD_SUPERVCAA_64X_4v12

Going to test EHAM tomorrow, going to see if it breaks the camels back.

The biggest issue with these settings is clouds and AG (trees in particular I think). Too much AG and enough clouds can bring the most powerful GPU to it's knees at 4x or 8xSGSS, moreso if combined with 64X_4v12.Testing in big airports like EHAM I get the same FPS no matter what AA / AF settings I use, it's more of a CPU thing there.

Hello, I am very disappointed about the ugly, annoying and disturbing shimmering effect on thin scenery objects.Over last few weeks I have tried almost every combination it is possible. First I tried configuration settings suggested by PMDG team on their pinned thread.Unfortunately, 8xS + 4x supersampling give a lot of shimmering. Then tried to use the Sparse grid supersampling (2x and 4x), but these have a huge impact on fps (about -10) and fluidity.I have also tried configuration proposed at #122 message, but it could not fix the problem. In other words, or I get a huge fps impact with a complete fixing shimmering problem or I get lot of shimmering and a good fps.Anyone found a good solution? I am very frustrated!

I went with Richard's settings in Post #122 (exept i used 8SQ) and i saw a marked improvement. What are your system specs Riccardo? Are you on SP1, or pre?Edit: i should point out that i Mipmapped my NGX textures.

i5 2500K @4,2 Ghz - GTX 560Ti and so on.SP1.I didn't referred to shimmering of textures, but objects, small and thin objects (like fences, trees, apron lamp light...).I tried to use SUPERVCAA 64X 4v12 and no transparency filtering (No SS or MS) and it gives a very pleasure result but when landing with VC the fps collapse to 13-15, which is absolute too low (I have locked to 25 using Antilag). Any suggestion with a filter less heavy then SUPERVCAA 64X 4v12 but very profitable at the same time?thanks bye.
