September 27, 201114 yr HiDoes anyone know of a good freeware ATR 72-500 for FSX?I can't find one anywhere. Please reply ASAP. Recent Flights: 18-5-2018 QF147: SYD-AKL (ZK-ZQG) 27-5-2018 EK413: CHC-SYD (A6-EUI)
September 27, 201114 yr You should check the FS Pilot Shop for addons. I quickly found an ATR 72-500 with a quick search there. I don't own this addon, but Flight1 is a pretty good company, and the pics looked good. Happy flying! http://www.fspilotshop.com/product_info.php?products_id=945 -Bram Osterhout
September 27, 201114 yr Thats the dreamfleet one. A few years old, belived it was designed for fs2004 and then upgraded later on for FSX, however you have to pay if it. Its dated, but quite nice. I have it have not flown for a while. Brent Lewis
September 27, 201114 yr There is no fully native freeware ATR 72-500 by my knowledge, but there is an old FS2004 one that I think I have seen mentioned in the FSX file lists also. September 27, 201114 yr There is one here Ryan It's free. Scroll down to Fsx downloads and you will find it. http://kelownaairvir...ftdownloads.htm
September 27, 201114 yr Not freeware, but certainly the best ATR-72 presently available, is the payware Flight 1 version, although as noted by others, it was made with the FS2004 SDK and not the FSX one, although the boxed and download versions will install into FS9 or FSX (since it was patched and ported to FSX), so it is compatible with FSX although not native FSX. The main upshot of that is that the propellers will look weird against the clouds since the way spinning prop disks are portrayed in FS9 differs to FSX, also, you may need to downlaod a small window fix that sorts out the window views when it is raining in FSX. You typically find that non-native FSX models will not run quite so smoothly in FSX as a native one will, although it does run at a decent FPS in FSX anyway. So, it does work in FSX, and prior to the PMDG Jetstream being released, it was certainly the most accurate turboprop you could get for either FS9 or FSX (although a few others came close). This is because, like a lot of Flight 1 add ons, it was made with the cooperation of the makers of the real aircraft (Aerei da Trasporto Regionale/Avions de Transport Régional - a French/Italian conglomerate), so it is a realistic portrayal of the aircraft and its systems. It is accurate enough for ATR to have used it as a promotional tool, in fact, they used to give copies of it away at events such as RIAT and Farnborough, in order to woo prospective buyers of the real aeroplane. Like every other Flight 1 product, you can 'buy and try'it, so you won't lose anything in checking it out. It's looking a bit old in the VC compared to more modern FS aeroplanes, but you won't find a better ATR as far as realistic avionics are concerned. Be prepared to spend a lot of time on the manual though, I seem to recall it's about 500 pages long LOL I personally like it a lot, and I think it still stands up very well in spite of its age. Great for zipping around Europe, and much prettier than the Dash series of aircraft. Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

February 12, 20179 yr Hello Does anyone know why my elevators are locked after each landing? I want to make a toch and go, and the elevator after the landing just wont move. Ailerons do work. Cheers Csaba
February 12, 20179 yr Is it going into Hotel Mode? Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
February 12, 20179 yr It's been a long time since I flew the Flight 1 ATR-72, but I do know it is very realistic, because of that, it simulates Hotel Mode. Hotel Mode is a feature of some aircraft (usually smaller regional airliners) which are not fitted with an APU for providing power when the main engines are not running, it is named after something similar which big ships can do, where their engines are running but the screws are disconnected from the engine drive, so that they can run the engines to provide power for crews aboard whilst the ship is tied up at the docks. So it's a bit like when your car is not in gear, but the engine is running, for example if you wanted to listen to the radio and have the lights on but without flattening the battery. The ATR-72 and the ATR-42, can do the same thing with its starboard engine, i.e. the engine is running, but the propeller will not be turning (this is so that you can be powered up, but ground crews will not be at risk of getting a face full of spinning propeller whilst the number two engine is running). In order to do it, you have to engage the control surface gust locks. The gust locks are primarily there to prevent the controls from moving in strong winds when the aircraft is parked, but the gust locks also inhibit you from selecting high throttle power settings as a safety measure to prevent you from taking off with the gust locks engaged, which makes me think that your ATR-72 might be in Hotel Mode, since it sounds to me like the gust locks are on, because they prevent the elevators and ailerons from moving, but it could just be that the gust lock lever is pulled back for some reason. You will find the gust lock lever on the throttle quadrant to the left of the power levers. You can't miss it, it has yellow and black diagonal warning chevrons on it. If you see that pulled back toward you, your gust locks are on, which would explain why you can't move your elevators. Note too of course (as mentioned) that you can't increase the power to take off RPM with those gust locks on. Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
