Alternating Landing Lights?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,Long time since I've posted here but I seem to be stuck; Is there any way I can edit a .fx file or something to get the landing lights to alternate? A lot of the Dash 8 Q300/400's, B737's, E170's etc all have alternating lights on each wing. By the way I'm using FSX; Hope that makes sense haha LOL.gif . I would really appreciate if someone could help me out here. Thanks,Jack

Unfortunately, no. Unless you have the source file for the model, there's no way to add "Pulse Lites" to the aircraft.

If I can't do the "pulse lites", is there any way to make the landing lights flash at all?

Sure. Copy the flashing red light effect (I have no idea what it's called), and modify it so it is a flashing white light (look at the nav white light for the texture specs). Then place it at the same place as the landing light effect in the aircraft.cfg file, specifying it as a landing light. You might even be able to create an effect that flashes oppositely to that one, if you can figure out what makes it flash. Hope this helps,

Interesting..... I would like to see these alternating landing lights in action. Do you have any links to any real videos of this in action...say on YouTube?

Thanks guys, I've sorted it out. What I did was I placed some strobes in the aircraft.cfg, edited them separately so one of them has a delay before being displayed. This gives it sort of an "alternating" effect. Hope that makes sense LOL.gif Thanks,Jack

Hi, One can make some xml-code to set landing- and/or taxi lights on and off during landing between certain radio heights.Gives same effect, i think. Jan

You know the truly odd thing? I've had genuine PulseLiteTM systems installed on three bizjet projects so far over the past few years. To date there has been precisely ZERO comments made, pictures posted, or even a mention of them in a review... ...it's as though no one has even noticed them! It truly causes me to wonder why I spent so much time modeling them to begin with, as it appears that I'm the only one who's ever enjoyed them! To "do it right" requires that one custom model both the gauge system and the 3d model so that both the point source (light bulbs) and the ground splashes work in synch.

Hello Bill, does the Cessna Citation CJ1+ 2.0 feature the Pulselite system?
Yes it does... As I wrote above however, to date no one has noticed, or at least if they have noticed they've never mentioned it. The Nav/Recog switch has three positions: off, Nav, and Nav/Recog. The Recog lights are white "lights" that use the taxilight ground splash. They will automatically "pulse" as soon as the a/c main gear is off the ground, or the override switch may be enabled so they will "pulse" even while on ground. This latter feature is useful during low-vis conditions to help prevent ground accidents. In fact, the entire lighting system is accurately reproduced, since one may turn on left and right landing or taxi lights individually, providing a total of four levels of ground lighting! And as Ed wrote above, the CX v2.0 has had the feature since day one, and... ...complete silence! Hypnotized.gif

Up until today, I had always been puzzled over the alternating lights I would see on aircraft on approach here around Dulles.  I used to live in a neighborhood that was in the approach flight path for the airport and at night, I would occasionally see aircraft coming in on approach and seeing their landing lights alternate back and forth.  I didn't give it too much thought, and really chalked it up to a standard procedure during landing, but not all aircraft had this at the time.  Is this now something that will become standard with all aircraft?

From an FSX standpoint, it would be cool to integrate this functionality into the aircraft (user and AI) to add a little more realism. :)
