Hmmmm.. now there's an idea I hadn't thought of. Would it work? Must be a catch somewhere! I could try a few and see...

Hi Eric, I only have the sounds in FSHotSFX, which you have already. I don't know if you could use them, or that would infringe copyright law. In any case, the company seems defunct - no activity on the site for 4 years or more. If it were for my own use or free distribution I wouldn't hesitate - but for sale purposes, it may not be ethical - or even legal! Maybe there's a way around it - editing the files maybe before use?? I doubt in any case that the developer of FSHotSFX owns the copyright to the sound files themselves - just to the programme and interface that he/she created. Otherwise, I can search for similar non-copyright sounds - perhaps someone could say what the situation would be legally though - I don't want to be seen to be encouraging anything shady!! I already have some of your other FS stuff Eric (a/c panels etc.), so it would be wonderful if you were able to make something similar in functionality to FSHotSFX ,,,, How to proceed? Will look at the Russian 'AVSIM' offering too - thanks a lot for the link. Martin
Indeed, re-using the FSHotSFX sound set would not be legal, and editing them before using them for our own software would not be honest, even if they can't prove anything. I think the best option is to try to contact the developers, even if their site looks like dead, and ask them the authorization to use their sound samples. Maybe they will accept for free or maybe they will ask for royalties. Both options would be good. Now the problem is to find an email address and get a reply...I will try to find it and send them an email. If you have an email address, please let me know. I have been told they are still reactive when they are asked for a new key generation. Eric
In real life , lets say in a Airbus or Boeing cockpit can you really hear other aircrafts engines? if yes , how loud?
Not much really, mostly a low pitched 'rumble' during takeoff or full reverse thrust.

Thats what i tought , plus pilots use headsets.

The main 'annoyance', as I indicated, is dead silent aircraft in Spot View.... In the cockpit it isn't so noticeable, or important, of course. Will try to find the email address - all I have is [email protected], which is just for new reg keys I think *used to think it was a guy called 'Reg', but I guess not!). Also I have [email protected] but don't think that's the developer's address either - never did get a reply with that one. M.

You're right, but our role is to "cheat" with the reality to increase the situation awareness in the sim. I developed the Wilco Airbus and added a loud sound for the PTU (Power Tranfer Unit) because you hear it that loud when you're a passenger. In the cockpit, you just don't hear it, but I wanted to have it to increase the immersion and to let the virtual pilot recognize the sound heard in the real aircraft. It is the same for the APU (no sound heard from the cockpit) or the other aricraft sounds: Not totally realistic but increases immersion. Eric

These are the email addresses I have as well, I don't have any other. Can you try contacting them using these addresses?Even if 'reg' is for registration key only, we can hope the person who receives it will be able to transfer it to the right person. Eric

Meanwhile, I tried linking all the main AI a/c to my aircraft sound folders. The effect is nice, when you are right on top of them. from any distance at all, they are inaudible: which is OK, except when a big jet is taking off, which should be audible across the whole airport. I don't hear reversers either. I can't see a way to increase the volume of these sounds, apart from moving the fs9 menu sound/environment slider up to 100%, but that increases the volume of lots of other effects too and sounds ridiculous. I wonder how the FSHotSFX programme managed it.. M.

maybe you could alias the sound for your ai traffic to some of your flyable planes?
I imagine doing this would affect the performance especially in a big airports with lots of AI planes. I might be wrong.

Is the FSHotSFX Payware, and where can I get it? Will it work on Vista 64 bit?

Linking the sounds to flyable a/c doesn't work - the sounds don't seem to be used, so that was a waste of several hours! Still, nothing ventured, nothing gained... Yes, FSHotSFX is payware, but it won't work with anything after Windows XP... (To find it just Google it) Have emailed the people at FSHotSFX, but am not holding my breath waiting for a reply. If they don't, or do and refuse to co-operate, I will try to accumulate the necessary sound files myself from non-copyright sources (what a task!) Martin

They usually answer quickly enough on "SupportSFX[AT]HotSeat.com" when you ask for a new activation code (ie reinstall or hardware upgrade) - I last had contact in May this year... I can't see why they should be against letting someone rework their stuff, for a fee and royalties, so that their product will live on... I am still a die-hard XPx64 user, pretty much because I don't want to loose the AI sounds... My other previous excuses for not upgrading to Windows7 have long since gone! Geoff

Don't get me wrong it was just more a curiosity , and yes i have traveled as a passenger before Peace.gif . I´ve installed the AI sounds found here on AVSIM as well :) Safe flying

No reply to my emails to FSHotSeat etc. What a surprise. You still up for making a replacement Eric? What files would you need? Martin

Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)

Martin you may have already seen these but have you checked out the FSHotSeat add-on sound files in the avsim library? They are provided by members of the fs community. I'm not sure of the legalities of utilizing them but it may be a start for you and Eric. Would love to see this go forward, I too have gone back to XP as the ai sounds from FSFX were too much to lose.
