ISD Airports some words of praise. (for older PCs)

Featured Replies

I have over the last few months been trying(Freeware ) Add On airport sceneries ,in an attempt to add something new to my FS enjoyment. If your PC is a little elderly (mine is) you may want to give these examples a try (Framerate friendliness is an absolute must or sceneries are mercilessly deleted )My definite top of the pops ISD (Italian scenery design I think ) no longer active (SHAME) I have two sceneries so far.LIRF and LIMC These two are brilliant, there seems to no framerate impact at all (and that even includes animated vehicles buzzing about) and the night lighting is exquisite (after landing and shutdown you almost don't want to close the sim down its so good) A couple more UK2000sGatwickGlasgowExeter Manchester The above examples are there free versions Also excellent sceneries ,but a little impact on performance IS noted. They are still excellent though. My PC = p4 2.8 .2gb Ram. GForce 6600 GT (Must be six years old) Anyways some thoughts if you are thinking of trying add-on sceneries for the first time and your PC is a little old. cheers Andy

The ISD group were cutting edge when they were active and you are right, their sceneries still really shine. And most of them have AES support!

I am still using their AESed Malpensa and Fumicino (just like Andy) and love them! smile.png Payware quality for free. They had plans to make some Sicilian airports (Palermo and Catania) but they never did. What a pity...

There is a half finished website active here:http://spazioinwind....ome_en.html#top and some previews are here:http://spazioinwind....t/previews.html Once in a while there are scenery updates in the FS9 scenery here on AVSIM and:http://gianp.altervi...Static/ISDp.htm Other links:http://gianp.altervista.org/dirsil.phphttp://gianp.altervi...ightSimMain.htm In Italian but these are FSX scenery converted for FS9. Many files here including some lost on AVSIM:http://www.volovirtuale.com/downloads.php?do=cat&id=4

I have their LIRF and LIPZ(for which you also need to download scenery for the correct rendition of Venezia).Others which are not ISD but to the same standard are LIMF(Torino), LIMZ((Levaldigi)which I updated as it's my local!), LIMJ(Genova Sestri) and LIRN(Napoli). This is a good source toohttp://www.freewarescenery.com/fs2004/whatsnew.htmlvololiberista

WHAT!? ISD isn´t active any more! It a real loss. Sadly they never made it to the commercial, I would have bought their sceneries in a heartbeat!Btw. do the sceneries like LIRF work in FSX?

Best regards, Steffen

True, the gorgeous car traffic beneath your wings when departing (or landing, depending on the runway choice)! It has always made a huge impression on me (one of the first FS9 sceneries with ground traffic).
and Genova Sestri LIMJ
The great ship and port you overfly low on finals. Memories, memories (FS9 ones, I mean)... Angel.gif

You'd better ask in the FSX forum. They may know the right answer. wink.png

Well, I never paid much attention to car traffic, but what I admire is the level of realism of the runway textures and ground markings in ISD airports, that real-like view in final approach !!!, not the one of those plastic default textures.

Sadly, when they were active I know for a fact that they were disappointed at how little recognition they got. I don't think any of the sceneries got reviewed on AVSIM (maybe Bear did something) even though at the time they were cutting edge payware-level freeware and there was no freeware at that time that came even close. If they had read this thread a few years ago we may not have lost them from the hobby.... I was thinking the other day how few payware Italian sceneries that are available. Could it be that ISD so filled the market that even today many of us are still using their products and th producers don't think they will sell? The only two payware Italian sceneries I have are Cloud9's Aviano and Rivolto - both military...
