October 21, 201114 yr I know this may have been said many times, however, on about 50% of my landings, my brakes seem to fail instantly on landing! No failures, no errors, just brakes which won't do anything. Nor does the parking brake work. Now, has there been a found reason for this occurring? Has there been a solution for the problem? Will it be fixed in SP1?Any info on the subject would be appreciated.Nick Nick Watson Lover of the Boeing 737-800NG "If it's not Boeing, I'm not going"
October 21, 201114 yr If you took the time to search the forums you would see the solution. by Paul Deemer: It is hard to give out any accurate assistance on this since the way the Autobrake responds is different according to which HotFix you are using. In earlier versions a simple firm double Tap on the brakes would release it. In Hot Fix 4 that no longer works for me, however using the Autobrakes knob does not cause any issues for me. Here is how I do it in Hotfix 4. Landing on Runway: Spoilers, Thrust Reversers Deploy and Auto brakes Engage. Aircraft slows down and at about 60 knots I stop reverse thrust and turn the auto brakes knob to off position and then a firm double tap on the brake pedals allows me to continue coasting down the runway at around 30 knots. At the Gate: Make sure your Chocks are off before Push Back! Leave the Hydraulic Pumps Off while pushing back. Once you get done pushing back, turn Hyrdraulic Pumps on, Put the Parking Brake on, then finally Calibrate your Controllers. Yeah I know the procedures above on pushback are not real world procedures but neither is the brake problem that keeps coming up. This is just the procedures I use to avoid any brake issues. Sometimes I have found that sitting at the gate with any of the hydraulics pumps running if your calibrating your Rudder pedals and step on the toe brakes it will cause a brake failure. So that is why I do the above exactly how I do it. Will be a relief when everyone is on SP1 and then support will be so much easier cause there won't be HotFix 1 2 3 or 4 to deal with anymore. If they are stubborn and won't upgrade to SP1 then Ignorance is Bliss! Paul Deemer

October 21, 201114 yr Forum troll with unnecessary posts? Mine was more helpful than yours so I don't see how I am a Troll. There are a ton of Posts on this specific issue alone. If people took a little time to search the forums first it wouldn't be so cluttered with repeated posts on the same issue. Paul Deemer

I think we need to complain to the mechanics who pre-flighted the aircraft! It's kind of embarrasing when you run off the runway at San Francisco International, not to mention the damage to property and passengers alike :D R. October 25, 201114 yr Just an update but when I landed tonight at FIMP, I tried it the other way around and that works as well. Firmly Double Tap your brakes and then flip the Auto Brakes knob to off position. Paul Deemer
October 25, 201114 yr Ok is the brake only limited to people with the pedals etc, or does it happen to other hardware since iam just using a microsoft joystick at the moment without any problems with the brakes or autobrakes just wondering. Do you have anything assigned to the brakes? (Even if you think you do not, look at your FSX settings and also look at the keyboard commands page in the NGX Options page of the CDU... If you have something you aren't aware of sending data to the sim, that will explain your problem...)3) When the brakes "fail" do they actually FAIL (ie: you get a failure listed on FAILURES pages) or do they simply not trigger as expected, but respond to the FSX keypress command for brakes? Now here are some guesses:A) If the brakes are FAILING due to an overheat condition- that has been fixed for SP1.:( If you have hardware attached to the machine that has brake pedals (such as rudder pedals with toe brakes) then you probably want to look at the configuration of the toe brakes because it is likely that something is sending a signal to the brakes when it shouldn't be...Let us know- we'll see if we can't help you localize what the problem is... October 27, 201114 yr I had my brakes quit on me on two of three flights yesterday...they worked OK during preflight taxi, and autobrakes appeared to work during the initial part of the landing rollout, but I couldn't get any manual braking during the latter part of the rollout (with default key or my PFC pedals) and ended up departing the runway. Very, very frustrating. I sure hope this gets fixed in the SP. October 27, 201114 yr Just a thought because I did this the other night by accident when setting up my AXIS for the toe brakes. I forgot to check the Reverse Box. So in other words if you do not check the Reverse box then your brakes are actually on while your taxing around and landing. Normallly this would be noticable cause if your brakes are on by default the red brake light texts show up in FSX.However some people disable this text and if you did that you might not be able to see your brakes are active. Only takes a second to check. By default the toe brakes are on when your pedals are in the up position and checking the Rev (Reverse) Box has them off in the up position. Why this is the default is beyond me cause it doesn't make any sense. The default should be the other way around. One other thing is if your using FSX for the Axis make sure your using 100 percent sensitivity and no null zone for the brakes becasuse I was never able to get my brakes to disengage unless I did that. FSUIPC does not seem to have this issue though. Paul Deemer

FSUIPC does not seem to have this issue though. The PFC pedals are not DirectX input devices--they make their inputs via FSUIPC. They work OK, apparently until the autobrakes kick in, then it appears the autobrakes are either blocking axis inputs or actively releasing the brakes and overriding the axis inputs. The default "." key mapped to the brake control in FSX is also not working when this happens.
