November 1, 201114 yr Hello, I don't know if this was brought up recently, but are there any chances of pulsating landing lights, I know some NG's have them. If its not possible no worries :) just curious. Robert Fitzgereld Member Services Director Virtual Aviation Experience www.virtual-aviation.org
November 1, 201114 yr Pulsating landing lights? Never heard of them. You sure you aren't confused with the strobes?Regards,Daniel Verhaal
November 1, 201114 yr I've seen it too, however only on some small business jets. Thomas Danielsen - FAA Commercial Pilot, JAA ATPL
November 1, 201114 yr I'm very curious now! Can you tell me more about it, what is the purpose of it?
November 1, 201114 yr I'm very curious now! Can you tell me more about it, what is the purpose of it?Qantas 737-800`s have pulsating Landing Lights, they stand out for Miles when below 10,000, Simply put the port and starboard landing lights are sequential and flash on/off between them, as said above they pulsate.Rick
November 1, 201114 yr showing a Qantas 737 with pulsating landing lights. I would assume its only purpose is to make it easier for other aircrafts to spot it. Thomas Danielsen - FAA Commercial Pilot, JAA ATPL
November 1, 201114 yr You only see it really head on during the day... must look cool at night!Andrew Andrew Entwistle
November 1, 201114 yr There are two reasons for this system: The first is to increase the plane standing out, especially at night. The second is to scare away birds. Name available upon request
November 1, 201114 yr I searched for other Qantas plane with the pulsating light but I only found 737 Cl fitted with it. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but are you sure that this is also an option for the NG-Series? Regards, Chris Volle i7700k @ 4,7, 32gb ram, Win10, MSI GTX1070.
November 1, 201114 yr Ok, i have to correct myself already. Here a quote from Aviation week from 2009:"Qantas Airlines, along with Pulselite lighting system vendor Precision Flight, evaluated the effectiveness of pulsed lighting in reducing birdstrike events. The full evaluation period ran from January 2005 through August 2007. Within that period, Qantas installed the lighting system on five Boeing 737-400s and five Boeing 737-800s and conducted normal operations with these aircraft for one year."(http://www.aviationw...ike%20Solutions)So it looks like it, at least, was installed also on the NG for testing.... November 1, 201114 yr I too have seen the pulsating landing lights on the 700's that Southwest flies. I also saw a 300 the other day using them, so Mr. Fitzgerald IS correctabout the pulsating landing lights on the NG. They are for visual recognition for both humans and birds. Mike Davis
