WIn 7 64bit

Featured Replies

Hi everyoneJust need a little advice here.It was sugessted that WIn 7 64bit is the way to go...so I decided to follow up on thath advice. However there are a few version (or is it called editions?) out there like the home, professional....etc..What edition do I need for WIn 7 64bit exactly as a home vs. professional edition = price difference.

Home edition will do very well unless you want the 'extras' in Professional. You can go for retail that has both 32bit and 64bit on it or an OEM that has 64bit only. Just stay away from the Starter edition as it's useless for desktop use.John Ellison

Any of them will do. I use home premium. When installing fsx on win7, be sure to select a different install path, like c:fsx or possibly a different drive. The default c:program files(x86) has some different file permissions that can cause issues.

Start with Home Premium. If you later decide you want the features of Pro or Ultimate you can perform an in place upgrade of Windows 7 using a Windows Anytime Upgrade., It only takes 10 minutes but it ain't cheap..http://emea.microsoftstore.com/UK/en-GB/Microsoft/Windows/Windows-7/Windows-Anytime-Upgrade

The advantage of Professional is that it has some compatability tweaks that Home Premium doesn't have, and this may allow you to use more programs designed for WinXP that will not run natively on 7.

Correct. I would avoid the enterprise edition until you'll have to fiddle with warp speed and Mr. Sulu.I would go for the pro skipping the home.

One caveat. Home Premium won't allow (legally) language changes. If you get Home Premium in German for example and you need it in English for voice recognition purposes (FS2Crew voice edition, Multi Crew Experience...) you're screwed
