Starting cockpit build for 737NGx

Featured Replies

Dear All,Since the FS weekend here in the netherlands i have become interested in building my home cockpit. Now i don't have the money around to do it all at once so i will have to build it in steps. From reading for two weeks i now have concluded i need to make choices.First easy choice was: Which aircraft type: SInce the 737 has a lot of hardware builders i quickly decided it would be a 737.Next choice is WHICH 737. Since i already own the 737NGx and i love the amount of detail in its code the choice was made to develop a pit capable of working with PMDG's 737NGx.Next choice is what to buy first. Since i already have a very capable pc running fsx with 737Ngx with eyefinity setup (5760x1080) i believe the first things to buy now are a MCP and captains EFIS.Now here is where things become complicated.I want to buy them and use them without them being fitted into a cockpit frame yet. (that is something to be bought later)But i can't figure out:1. Which hardware MCP's and EFIS works with 737Ngx/Fsx combo?2. What additional software do i need? (registered version FSUIPC, SIOC, Linda, 737NGx SDK?).The idea here is to install the mcp and efis and instead of clicking on my buttons in the VC the hardware MCP and EFIS functions and will be used to operate my 737Ngx while flying.I will ask this question also in the mycockpit.org forum but i thought i ask here also since i looked into the forum and found some people are already engaged in getting this to work.Any advice is highly appreciated

Check the Linda forum here on avsim. They've had good success with open cockpits and go flight mcp/efis and the ngx. Some parts aren't quite 100% I believe, but still shaping up nicely.

@killerbee1958Flight Deck Solutions have a new cheap (money value) product line JetMax that can be located at www.jetmax.ca.I'm considering purchasing JetMAX 737SKTQ.jetmax737SKTQ-1.jpg

I saw this jetmax setup at the fs weekend. As far as i know this does NOT work with PMDG's 737Ngx or am i wrong informed?

@killerbee1958From contact i've had with Peter Cos he says he hopes his team can make JetMax compatible as soon as they get hold of the SDK.

Hmm that sound interesting as the jetmax complete solution had a very interesting price.Damn: just as i was ready to start ordering i start doubting again. dance.gifWill have to wait and see if they can indeed make it work with 737NGx in that case. Is the SDK already released btw?

For you to start doubting is normal i would say, as it is a real big undertaking. For me it would be you are always going to have to fly the same aircraft which i'm not prepared to do.

The Goflight EFIS (upto 2 units) and the MCP PRO are fully supported with the NGX and my free LUA script that you can download from the avsim file library.Goflight will develop their own support once the SDK has been released from PMDG.

Thanks Steve that is relevant info i guess.By buying first the mcp and one efis i would be able to get them to work with LUA only or do i need additional stuff like sioc? The advantage of this approach is that i can start small. on the other hand the jetmax will give you a complete setup for a very sharp price as far as i can see now. But still i do not have the funds to go for jetmax solution so building step by step is the way to go. I still am struggling with the fact that choices now need to be consistent with future plans (and these future plans are not solid so this is something of a catch 22. Are the goflight efis and mcp something of a standard industry size so a, to be selected, main instrument panel would fit around these?)Sismo solutions seem to have complete setup's also btw but at a even steeper price than jetmax.

LINDA has nothing at all to do with Open Cockpits or Go Flight, it was actually originally designed to work with the VRInsight MCP Combo, it now supports the VRi MCP2 Boeing panel too. It also works with normal HID devices i.e. joysticks. There is a lot more to it that but as I said its got nothing at all to do with OC or GF.

Cheers, Andy.

@Andydigital:So can you confirm that a opencockpit mcp 2 http://www.aviosim.org/webshop/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=66 would work also.I noticed the open cockpit hardware is much cheaper than goflight hardware. Also are these standard sizes also?

I only know stuff about the VRInsight hardware, click on my signature image to be taken to the VRinsight website for more details. VRi hardware is aimed more at the small home/desktop pilot, although there is nothing stopping you using VRi hardware in a large build like you are thinking of. This is really the wrong place to ask though, you would be better off asking at a website dedicated to home cockpit building. I do know that the iFly 737 is certainly more suited to home cockpit building, especially now that they have released the Pro version that is designed to work over a network of computers, but this is the wrong forum to discuss that too, I just wanted to show you that there are a lot more variables to think of than you first imagine when starting out making your own 737 sim. And no I haven't got one yet either, I do have a pretty fancy generic desktop cockpit though.

Cheers, Andy.

@andydigital:Thanks, the vrinsight is indeed aimed at another market.I am more looking for a "lookalike" real 737-800 cockpit style setup.Indeed a lot more variables are involved than one can imagine and that is why i am looking for guidance. It can be overwhelming but i also believe one has to start somewhere or else it will all end up with reading reading puzzling puzzling and getting nowhere. And i saw the Ifly demo also in lelystad. Btw that is software. They were using opencockpit hardware also. Let's indeed not go there. I do enjoy the 737NGx (and no experience with the "other product") so this is why, at this time, this is one of the choices made. Not ready to disregard that one also because then i move backwards instead of forwards. :-)I am looking at Opencockpit fora and mycockpit fora for info also. It is just too much info that makes it hard

Hi, I am using MCP ( selfbuild version based on Opencockpits hardware) and an EFIS ( selvbuild version based on Hispanels ) and software based on SIOC scripts anda combination of LUA scripts in FSUIPC. Every buttons, dials, switches, displays you have in the NGX are also working in thr hardware. This is a cheap solution that can later be increaed with other cockpits parts when time and money is available. You do not need the missing NGX SDK ( who knows when it is released).See also http://forum.avsim.net/topic/350572-opencockpit-mcp-with-pmdx-737ngx-ready/page__fromsearch__1rgsSee also
