December 17, 201114 yr I was impressed with the X-Plane demo, but the long load times, and honestly, the very nice but generic scenery just doesnt cut it. In FS9 I can fly from the Mach1DG KLAS to shez KLGB, and it looks like Vegas and Long Beach. Commercial flight, GA, whatever. Lots of planes with great externals, detailed panels, tons of AI traffic around me, I couldnt get that kind of immersion in X-Plane. Something else i've been wondering about is flight model. The smallest plane I have ever flown on was a Grumman C-2 Greyhound, so I have no experience in Cessnas or Beech. The XP flight model feels like the plane is a christmas ornament, dangling from a string. Im not anti XP, I would buy it if it was under $40 just because I want to support Flight Sim Developers. But, I wont buy it at $80. I will buy Flight as long as it's a more reasonable price. I already have FSX, just waiting for when I have a PC that can handle it better.
December 17, 201114 yr No PMDG, no PT Tu154m, no iFly737, etc. No thanks. For me it's that simple.no level d, no high fps, no frustrating moments dealing with ctd, no wilco airbus (well, the last one is actually tolerable)
December 17, 201114 yr I don't have CTD's with FS9.Lucky you. I did :D, many times (God Knows like how many did)..but hey, it's part of the game, can't complain..it's fun as a matter of fact.
December 17, 201114 yr X-Plane in previous versions is all about modeling. It has a modeler that allows you to build aircraft from standard components (body parts) in a library. FDE is part of the model.I believe ATC and AI are recent additions. The version I had was 5.99. I am sure there were more changes.I switched to FS8 for more immersion.
December 18, 201114 yr The main reason why I posted this topic was because I was so overwhelmed by how incredible the scenery is, especially the houses and more importantly the smooth flowing traffic along the roads. Having watched a couple of videos on Youtube I am amazed how fantastic it looks, the roads and highways with all the signs is just breathtaking. Now that might just be in certain places in the US, I don't know. Living in the UK I don't know if that amount of detailed scenery and effects will be implemented, I would certainly be interested to know. Surely that amount of detail isn't replicated worldwide? Is it????No need to apologize Mark!Perfectly acceptable (imo) to post your query here. The fact that it mentioned X-Plane did not bother me in the least,In fact! not the merest smidgen of irritation crossed my cerebral cortex. Yeah I know where you are coming from detecting the hint of sarcasm in your reply! How dare I mention X-Plane in an FS9 forum, I should be ashamed of myself!Seriously though, despite what I inintially thought of the new X-Plane sim, I think I will give it a miss and stay loyal to Microsoft, be it FS9 or possibly Microsoft Flight when it is released. When I loaded up the demo of X-Plane 10 it just seemed a little too over-complicated for my liking. Maybe that's because I have been so used to using FS9 over so many years, maybe you really can't teach an old dog new tricks afterall! (this dog is 39. so not that old really, just feel it sometimes!).So I will stay with FS9 for now, at least I know my way around with this sim...Mark Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. December 18, 201114 yr Author "Complicated" how, Mark? Do you have a litle time to expound on that?OK, I think 'complicated' may have been the wrong word to use and I am not sure what the right word is, but I think I am so used to using FS9 that I just found the layout of X-Plane not to my liking. Maybe I didn't give it enough time as I can be quite impatient in some respects! Not dissing X-Plane in any way mind, It looks like a fantastic product, I wouldn't have started this post in the first place otherwise, but as I said, maybe I am so used to using FS9 for so many years I am having trouble making the change, like I did when I bought FSX which I uninstalled the next day!I am sure the simmers that have X-Plane who have been using it for many years, if they were to change to FS9 they too would probably feel that they did not like FS9 as quite simply, they are used to what they know. I think it's part of how we humans are, not all of us, but a lot of us don't like change. Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Packard Bell imedia S3210. AMD Athlon II X 3 425 Processor 2.70 GHz. 3 GB RAM. December 18, 201114 yr Don't like change?? Non-sense! (I wearing the same underwear I've had on for 3 days . . .) Why did I think X-Plane was at one time open-source, and freeware? December 18, 201114 yr First it is multi-platform as far as operating systems including linux.Second you might be confused with Flightgear, an open source sim that runs on a few platforms including linux and windows. December 19, 201114 yr If I had bought FS2002, I would have skipped FS2004 and probaly would be where you are now Al.Wow, I don't think I've ever disagreed with you on anything before Tristan but I had to object to this! FS2000 was the one to skip. FS2002 was a huge leap forward from anything before it - and then FS2004 took FS2002 to a new level... I was very happy with FS2002 but was an AVSIM reviewer for FS2004 so had an advanced copy and after they fixed a few buts pre-release, I fell in love with it and we've been happily married ever since! If FSX had been the same incremental improvement on FS2004 that FS2004 was on FS2002 this forum would have closed long ago!Cheers mate!Ian

My finance (at the time, we are now happily married) bought it for me, when I was running Fly2 and wanted something more world based. I have to say, and I haven't told my now wife, it was a terrible disappointment. I missed buying FS2002 simply because I couldn't afford a new computer as my existing one at the time couldn't barely run FS2000. It was frustrating as I saw so many good things about FS2002. Anyway, FS2004 was a revelation and still is.CheersTristan Tristan Living in the beautiful Chilterns.
