ILS FSX NGX

Featured Replies

Hi i tried an approach into Riga today, however in FSX there is no ILS showing but in the NGX it is showing in the FMC. Will this let me do a full autoland into Riga. It would not let me arm the VOR LOC mode but it let me arm the APP mode. I also did not see any distance on the PFD for the DME reading. Any advice would be much appreicated.Kind Regards Chris

Try providing some more info. Such as which runway. Also if your referring to EVRA then its probably outdated ILS Frequencies.

Hi it was runway 36, I was using quite a recent nav data cycle.

The ILS needs to exist in the FSX world - look in FSX's map view - if you see an ILS there with a frequency and course, those are what will work. What's in the navdata has no direct correlation to what's in the FSX world and there's numerous examples where things are different or missing in the FSX world because the data is so old. (6+ years now) Often you can find an AFCAD for the airport that will bring it up to date though if this is the case.Pressing APP when there's no ILS in the FSX world is going to give you the IAN computerized approach modes - FAC and G/P vs. the normal VOR/LOC and G/S.

Ryan, one more thing to add to the OP's post. I had the same problem, but vice-versa. I was trying to land at Gibraltar and FSX said it had an ILS for both runways while the FMC did not... I have AIRAC 1108 and the scenery is default. Obviously, either the navdata is wrong or outdated.

That's news to me. MY FSX doesn't show an ILS at Gibraltar.

That's probably what I have been experiencing with ENVA RWY 27 ILS approach. Maybe I should check the map in FSX in order to confirm the frequencies and the LOC heading course.

What is FAC?

Final Approach Course mod I think?Basically you get a LNAV/VNAV overlay approach with some approach mode functions such as PFD indications.

OP very strange... By any chance, are you using a EVRA airport scenery for FS9. I use it too and I also don't have ILS frequencies. I use the ones NGX gives me. Works fine. About autoland I don't know, I bring it down manually, but it follows approach well.

I thought one had to program FMC with some kind of non precision approach like RNAV in order to use IAN. It seems like IAN can kick in when programmed ILS approach fails. FAC and G/P will then show up. IAN seems to take over by pressing APP button when ILS fails. It would be nice if this could be confirmed by experienced sims or real world pilots. An instructive video or more detailed information on how to prepare FMC for an IAN approach is highly appreciated. I think IAN is a really interesting approach since new navigation technologies allows this kind of non-precision to precision-like approach. I think that's what Boeing and Airbus have promised for the future navigational aids since a constant descent angle for the final approach provides more comfort for the passengers and significantly raise the safety level (redused CIFT risk) compared to step-down non precision approaches. That's a win-win.

What has EVRA to do with Gibraltar?Bert Van Bulck

Pay a little more attention Bert and you'll see it mentioned earlier up the thread. Or are you just (like so many here, sadly) trying to score points through extreme pedantry?I ask merely for information?
