January 2, 201214 yr I knew you would "assume" something. No, I have my gamma settings at the default 2.5 in x plane. SOMETIMES I have it at 2.2 or as low as 2.0 for testing textures in my add ons. And no matter how hard I look at the horizon in FSX at night, in summer (anything other specific conditions you want to add?), I can still see the horizon. Like I said Goran........................black as coal. No horizon whatsover. But what would I know, considering I live in the mountains, and often look out at night. Even in airplanes.I agree they can become annoying. Xplane does seem very stable except I get the NW Win32 Runtime error "could not allocate thread local data" every time I exit the program. After a few patches at least. I could not load/use my rudder pedals for a week. And unfortunately, there is no realism without pedals. Edited January 2, 201214 yr by LAdamson
January 2, 201214 yr I had a problem with my rudder pedals too and thought it might be the latest beta at the time-turned out my at least 15-20 year old ch pedals stopped working where my puppy 3 years ago chewed thru the wires and they stopped showing up in windows. Caused all kinds of wierd stuff in the joystick settings and had me going till I figured it out. Just put a piece of black tape on-good as gold again-those things are made incredibly solid! January 2, 201214 yr Commercial Member But.. (I know you shouldn't start a sentence like that) aces were a team in microsoft, a huge company with many fingers in many pies. You dont always get fired because you are not making a profit. Projects often get canned because they dont make as much profit. They could have been making more money per headcount than LR, who knows but they were also competing in a large company that makes a lot of money in other areas.Kind of a shame really. I remember feeling pretty gutted when I heard FSX was the last. Anyway, I was trying to prove a point to Larry. For some reason, he can never agree to anything I say.Go figure.
January 2, 201214 yr Yes, but many XP fans have also admitted this at times...It depends on who you ask, I suppose.I don't care much for the flight dynamics in XPX and I'll stand by that."I don't care much for the flight dynamics" is a reasonably stated opinion. "The flight dynamics are HORRIFIC" is considerably less reasonable. Are you getting it yet? Edited January 2, 201214 yr by Mountain Man

There was a specific error message, then drop to desktop. This would happen everytime, I tried to set the pedals in the joystick menu. It's resolved now.
January 2, 201214 yr I wasn't questioning your report-its just funny sometimes how the problem is completely something else one might not even think of.. Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

Anyway, I was trying to prove a point to Larry. For some reason, he can never agree to anything I say.Go figure.Think about it. I report that my monitor is as black as coal, with moonless nights in FSX. You report that the mountains can always be seen, and insinuate........that I must just be accepting that as realistic, while you and others don't. Yes, you're correct............I do not agree with what you say. And if this keeps up, I might not ever.

My wifes cat chewed completely thru My yoke, the rudder pedels she chewed in so many places I couldn't solder them back. Went to CH products had the cables forthwith. She also chewed my eDemionsanal 3D wire from the dongle to the lights. Aren't pets wonderful!! Actually its my fault, I know what she will do. "Put stuff up", my wife is constantly reminding me. January 2, 201214 yr Author It depends on who you ask, I suppose."I don't care much for the flight dynamics" is a reasonably stated opinion. "The flight dynamics are HORRIFIC" is considerably less reasonable. Are you getting it yet?MM, when the average person buys XP, fires it up and picks whatever plane, it should fly half decent out of the box. HORRIFIC is what I got without any tweeks of the flight controls. And no, it's not my set-up, because everyone in here has had to do this. Why LR would let this go un-noticed, without applying the tweeks that we have had to do, I just don't understand. I feel that they got rushed into the Holiday season and put out an unfinished product, that kinda upset me. Not because I'm a "hater", but because everyone deserved better than that. I was, and still am, very excited about what this sim "can be", as well as some very nice features that it allready has. Do I think flight will be better, yes, but you don't have to listen to me, that's my opinion, and I respect yours as well. This sim is not all that bad after playin around with it, but, out of the box, sorry, it's just OK. That being said, with the Carenado planes, major control tweeks, and flying as far away from civilization as possible, there really are some "wow" moments somewhere in there, like Briliant Clouds, Lighting and some of the "rual" scenery is very nice. We will agree to dissagree on the other points, but that's fine, I can live with that. Edited January 2, 201214 yr by VegaSS
January 2, 201214 yr @LAdamson,Talk about being pointless. You never had CTDs in FSX? Well excuse me for not believing you. As you say, bound to happen, right? So which is it? You did or didn't?I also never ever had a CTD in FSX and it's running between 5 and 10hrs each day. Looks like if CTDs suddenly start to increase with the PMDG 737, it's due to the plane and not FSX.A reason might be because I'm running FSX as it is, without any special tweaks, cfg changes, bojote shader, russian bloom, REX, etc....just the himemfix due to the GPU memory. January 2, 201214 yr Commercial Member Bernt, you and Larry are obviously in the category of minimal to no add ons and haven't experienced CTD's. But you cannot deny that the CTD's and OOM's exist and people are experiencing them. They have existed from day 1. You run FSX between 5 and 10 hours a day?????I'll be lucky if I run X Plane between 5 and 10 hours a MONTH.
January 2, 201214 yr It's not Microsofts fault if the addon is programmed sloppy.I do have quite a few add on planes and sceneries and never had a CTD.Problem is the combination of cfg changes, weather add ons and plane add ons. Well, as programing for flightsim is my only real hobby, that's not too much I guess. If the simulator is worth it and the tools are easy to work with, it's fun.
January 2, 201214 yr Most CTDs and OOMs are due to unstable overclocks to eek out the extra performance from the CPU hog that FSX is, not the program itself. I use REX and a few ground texture addons with a few airports from 3rd party (freeware) and FSUIPC. Other than that, I am stock FSX. Not once have I had an OOM/CTD/BSOD from FSX. While I was getting my rig stable overclocking, I had plenty. I get a BSOD, I'd reset the BIOS to defaults and FSX would run like a champ. Aaron

HORRIFIC is what I got without any tweeks of the flight controls. And no, it's not my set-up, because everyone in here has had to do this. The problem, then, is not that the flight dynamics are "horrific" but that you didn't set up the software properly. At least be honest with your criticism. On that note, I've said before that Laminar could make a better out-of-the-box impression if the control sliders were set at 50% by default. This sim is not all that bad after playin around with it, but, out of the box, sorry, it's just OK.
