January 7, 201214 yr Hi all flight simulator enthusiasts,Having read Robert's words about the future of flight sim as well as the future of MS FLIGHT I can not but propose seriously the following:Join forces to create a new flight sim which will serve as a global platform for the years to come.PMDG has proven that they they have an in depth knowledge of flight sim.Can PMDG join forces maybe with a few other serious add on developers (Robert mentiones them) and create a new flight sim?Afther all it will be to any flight sim enthusiast interest. If things will be left just as they go maybe in the near future there will be various smaller flight sim platforms, different to each other, targeting different target groups. So, is joining forces realistic? Well it is not easy and I don't know all the parameters involved. But this a crossroad in flight sim history and we have to choose which way to go instead just taking one of the ways to see where it leads to.What do you all think about this? Thanks,Christos
January 7, 201214 yr Errrr..... No. It would cost millions if pounds and be very time consuming. It is probably not possible for even companies to join together to create one. It would be too much work. When P3D is a great simulator and the price will probably come down soon there is no point caring a new sim.Aaron G. PMDG Boeing 737NGX Captain
January 7, 201214 yr I agree with you. PMDG has definately the skills to do it. But I know nothing about their financies though. I've actually through about this several times as well. FSX probably has a few more years in it, but there will be a moment, when FSX just doens't work on the current OS's and hardware, it will simply get too old, and too unstable. (it already is but still works). Perhaps it won't work anymore on Windows 8. Arjen Vandervelde
January 7, 201214 yr ORBX and PMDG should talk to AeroflyDirect quote from ORBX:MS don't know what they have in the FSX engine source code, or they would not have licensed it to LM. It is by far the most capable and impressive 3D far-horizon engine ever coded - bar none. Nothing, even in 2012 comes close to the number of pixels and terrain the FSX engine can push at a locked 60Hz. Problem is, the code needs a little loving and MS won't fund that. So good thing we have a dev team at LM who are doing just that. Can't wait for that engine to be running close to the metal and off the CPU and onto the GPU. Yes, that's coming and it will rock.As for making our own engine? Been there, done that, talked to a bunch of suppliers. Again, nothing comes close to the FSX core code, it's that good. There is a reason why code from 26 years ago was retained. It would cost us about $30 million to start from scratch, maybe more. Better to just make content for an engine that is working and being developed forward. steve d Win7 Ultimate x64 i7-2600k @4.8GHz Asus Sabertooth P67 Mushkin Redline 8GB EVGA GTX 570 SC Corsair Force GT 240GB SSD CoolerMaster SilentPro 1000W PS PMDG737NGX, PMDG747-400, REX2.0, GEX, UTX, MyTrafficX, EzDok

January 7, 201214 yr Why should they? They would not be able to top this. It is the best I have ever seen. :Applause:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhjUjw3pUkk&feature=player_embedded Roland Schmalzl
January 7, 201214 yr Why should they? They would not be able to top this. It is the best I have ever seen. :( Just don't tell anybody, that there is only one detailed airport included. The rest are runway/taxiways only. A few videos can be quite misleading. Eventually, they'll be populated by 3rd party additions, but that may take awhile...
January 7, 201214 yr Just don't tell anybody, that there is only one detailed airport included. The rest are runway/taxiways only. A few videos can be quite misleading. Eventually, they'll be populated by 3rd party additions, but that may take awhile...I think the most important part is it has a free SDK and does not cost 500 $ like Prepar3d. Laminar Research is a comparably small team but it offers unlike ridiculous Flight a full grown simulation platform. It is up to the addon developers to fill it with life. Roland Schmalzl
January 7, 201214 yr Commercial Member Gents-PMDG is absolutely not interested in developing a game engine....We are very good at what we do. Sometimes being good at what you do means knowing how to avoid engaging in things you aren't good at.... Robert S.
