Give Flight a Chance

In the long run, why would Flight not turn out to be everything we ever wanted and more - provided that we are prepared to pay for additional content and to be patient while it is being created? The Micro-Transaction model could provide Microsoft with a continuous revenue stream for years to come. They will have the opportunity to develop and expand the Flight game in whatever directions that there is a demand, including simulation. Why would they not develop and sell to us the add-ons we want to create a wonderful platform for our hobby?

Because the demand will be for kitsch, not for art and because the best artists will not be working with Flight.

Exactly my line of thinking. Thanks for your better wording though.Especially because you said "in the long run". You can install Flight as soon as it gets out, but that absolutely does not imply you would then have to instantly "switch" over to it, as whatever you are running now will keep working just fine.Actually, I would hate to see any other scenario happening. Judging by the CES videos, that would mean that the by far best curved-earth, far horizon engine ever done would go to waste.

Yes, a large number of people will want kitsch and cheap junk. These are the casual arcade types that may try out this and that, but given 2 or 3 new action titles grabbing their attention, will quickly lose interest. Those who will actually still purchase content a year after Flight's release, will likely have some serious interest in flying. Even people who like flying through gold coins and find "aerocaches" will not like doing this for a whole year. Given that MS wants to make money, I am guessing they intend to sell content for years to come.My gut feeling is, that hardcore simmers will get their hands on that engine. We should not leave it to the flying-through-funny-stuff crowd. Give it time.

That is so true (not the trust you part :( ) no person is indispensable no matter how important they think they are. There is an old idiom that comes to mind of those who get stuck in old familiar places while those with ambition and imagination pass them by: "Lead, follow, or get out of the way!"Kind regards,

This is true only if you don't care about the time and money it will take to replace them.

Nope, the prodigy one will take any kind of work and money to make is place in the market, only after he proved himself can he ask for a better pay.I don't think Wayne Gretzky received the same amount of money in his fist year as a pro. hockey player as he was in his last year, he had to prove himself.

Yes, that's the time part. How long will it take another company to accumulate the kind of knowledge that PMDG or Orbx already have? What has prodigy to do with it anyway? You are just making my point that you cannot just replace someone and get the same kind of quality output immediately.

And who exactly replaced Wayne Gretzky?Aren't you just proving my point that some people are very hard to replace, even if you have the money and the time? The statement that "Nobody is irreplaceable" sounds profound, but it is flawed. The kind of people who say this are the ones that have no idea about what the people they are trying to replace are actually worth.

My life-time in thwe competitive commercial world has taught me that tpeople who deny it are often those who have an exaggerated idea about what they are actually worth. I've lost count of the number of people who demanded a pay rise on that basis, threatening to leave if they didn't get it. The number who left was small and their posts were quicky filled with no undue disruption - usually by existimg staff.

That's nice and who replaced the person you used to replace the person who left?

I wouldn't say that, post #8 and post #14 made a lot of sense to me. Please read then post how brilliant those two posts are. The first post isn't too shabby either. :( ! Peace! :( BTW, Did John Lennon wear or promote wigs? I noticed the sign in the background mentioning "hair peace"? Maybe a lot of those hippies wore wigs. Speaking about wigs, Flight appears to make people wig out. Hair peace is the way for hippies and bald men!

What a rubbish thread

We made changes, promoted a few people, and made offers (as necessary) to people already in our recruitment pipeline.Companies see people come and go all the time. Managing that is routine day-to-day business.

I just spent the last two hours on the edge of my seat. Incredible! This is going to be a hoot! Anyone who knocks something they know absolutely nothing about or have experienced personally, is in for some really serious public embarrassment. I have loved FSX and have a fortune tied up in it, but it is very soon to be ancient obsolete technology and is going to be left far behind. It is old, old, old, loaded with 80G of addons and all. Out with the old and in with the new! I can't wait for spring cleaning. :( :( :( B) Kind regards,
