What is the size of your Flight Simulator 9 folder?

Featured Replies

I just checked the size of my Flight Simulator 9 directory. It is 11.7 GB !! (Does Windows include all the subdirectory sizes, when you ask for the properties of the FS9 folder?). The largest folder I have under this is the MegaSceneryLA folder. This directory reports to be 5.32 GB, Can someone please confirm these numbers.I have added many aircraft over time, the aircraft folder is 2.7 GBI guess I am somewhat surprised that MegaScenery is 5.32 GB. I really like this scenery but want to confirm something is not wrong.

HiYes, properties includes all sub directories and their contents. Is this figure the total size of all files or the disk space they use? The latter will be greater than the former and propreties displays both.David

I'm at 14.3 gb with 85,000+ files. That's a biggie.

I don't have Megascenery, but those numbers seem totally reasonable. My directory is over 16+gb. I have been buying and installing FS Genesis mesh, which really adds up quick. Just make sure you keep your drive defragmented regularly. Especially after you install a large addon.

Mine is 13.7GB. I was quite shocked, but I guess it makes sense once you consider the various add-ons, especially mesh. Before I checked I "guesstimated" it at about 3 or 4 GB...- Martin

Yikes mine is 17 gigs! I guess all the add ons add up!

Muhaha I win (for now):DMine is a wopping 31 GB (92.178 files in 4.409 folders) :-eekMost of it comes down to AI aircraft where I still got some old PAI ones left that I havent had time to edit out the ones i have in FSP/AIA versions lol.Thankfully because of XP's compression in NTFS it only takes up about 13 GB of physical space :) Bmp's seems to go down well in its compression :)Strangely enough the sim seems to load pretty fast believe it or not lol

Mine is only 8.77GB so far, but that will change relatively fast. I plan on buying alot more add on scenery.

Hi allUntil I saw this thread I had never even thought about it. So I went and had a Look OH MY GOD 29.3 GB with 394,000 files in 4090 folders. Have an order in for more ram and no wonder.Don;-)

Howdy,I got ya all beat! I have FSGenesis Mesh for the whole U.S.(and the landclass). Probably about 8 Simflyers airports, FlyTampa Miami, and then about 15 or so freeware sceneries of varying sizes including the British Columbia, Canada mesh. I should mention I have MyTraffic 2004 installed which adds good little bit too. The rest is payware and freeware aircraft, some of which I have quite a few liveries installed for. My FS2004 partition is formatted at a file allocation unit size of 32 KB and usage is...Size: 35.8 GBSize on disk: 39.3 GB112,682 files 5,855 foldersCargoMun is a pretty close second to me, butTeeheehee... I win! (for now) :-lolCheers, Jim

Mine:18.85 GB435,091 filesI think MS needs to change the format so that the data is stored in bigger files. You could for example have an "aircraft.res" file with all the data for an aircraft, then provide a resource editor to extract and modify the parts you want to. Same with the tiny .bmp and .bgl files that make up the scenery. Of course, it's easier to modify FS when everything is stored in its own file, but it's a big waste if disk space (0.6GB of slack space in my case), due to the cluster size.
