It is not only Flight Simulator that got it, now they are going for Windows too.http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-20116005-75/microsoft-defends-its-windows-8-metro-start-screen/They say in other link that we will still have a choice which better be one or the other and at one time deal IMHO. If everytime I reboot I have to choose I won't be happy.I am starting to think that they really believe we all shutdown our PC desktops/laptops for good in some sore of new exodus and went completely flat out with the phone gaugets as a replacement. Someone just got to be kidding me.Cheers,MAB

This is old. Really, really old. Windows 8 is obviously geared towards touch screens, and as such shouldn't be considered a replacement for Windows 7. I don't get what all of the fuss is about! We're not being forced to switch over yet everyone seems to think they are!

Right. We're not being forced to switch over....yet. I bought a new machine last year, and put XP on it. However, XP is no longer a "supported" OS, so it will eventually become obsolete, as will Windows 7.I'm more concerned with the statements about "elimination of the folder concept." Does this mean that we won't be able to organize things our way, only Microsoft's way? Will I have to decide whether to put my photos into "My Friends," "My Activities" or "My Pictures," with no way to do something reasonable like separating out a particular vacation trip or graduation?I'm guessing they will still allow such organization, but they'll hide it the way they started to do with Program Files under XP.

According to Microsoft, support for XP (SP3) runs until April 2014:http://support.microsoft.com/ph/1173This is of interest to me, as I also run XP

In computer terms, XP has spanned many life times.Unfortunately Windows is moving towards Apples thinking and closing off the backside of the OS and only giving users the features we think we need.

More likely, they will only give us features they think we need.

Yeah that's what I meant. My fingers didn't cooperate with what my brain was telling them.

Windows 8, the new Vista! :Loser:But seriously, tablets will never replace desktops, just like laptops never replaced desktops in the mid 90's...

I agree with Zach!Windows 8 will mostly be for tablet use. I would HATE to have my sexy desktop replaced by some mosaic that I have to click on to go to it. That's dumb!Long live Windows XP and Windows 7! (Mostly because my school is still on XP... :()
