February 10, 201214 yr HelloI have spent some more time this evening flying around in Flight!, trying out a few challenges, hunting down a few aerocaches, just the normal type of thing the Flight! guys get up to.My take on this is:If MS had sold the idea of this project as an offshoot of the FSX franchise talking it up as an updated Flight unlimited I & II, a sim that even the most hardcore around here remember fondly, they could have saved themselves from a lot of the negativity we see posted.Even better if they backported some of the improvents in efficency into an FSX SP3, just wins all around for us.Because that is what this is, a modern day Flight Unlimited I & II, no threat to FSX or any other serious sim, just something to dip in and out of when you only have an hour to spare.Selling this to the community as a sim that had something for everyone, a serious simulator for the hardcore and an easy intro to the newcomers was a huge mistake and just served to antagonise the more serious among us.As an introduction to this hobby for someone who has never tried a flightsim it is near perfect and should grow our numbers going forward. As a serious replacement for FSX it is a total fail, and that is where the marketing got it wrong, trying to be too inclusive to everyone. From the Flight unlimited Wikipeadia page:Flight Unlimited is a 1995 aerobatic flight simulator video game developed and published by Looking Glass Technologies. It allows players to pilot reproductions of real-world aircraft and to perform aerobatic maneuvers. They may fly freely, race through floating rings against a timer or take lessons from a virtual flight instructor. The instructor teaches basic and advanced techniques, ranging from rudder turns to maneuvers such as the tailslide, Lomcevak and Immelmann turn.Sound familiar ? February 10, 201214 yr Well said.A couple of things, if I may:I hope some of the new comers don't come here looking for advice. I'd heard this place eats its young (as someone said here in the last 24hrs or so), and we don't want to do that. And Flight probably has more growth potential due to the horsepower that could be behind it. May not grow in the direction some want, or fast enough, but there are plenty of other threads here about that. Regardless, I'm looking forward to having a go in a few weeks time.CheersMike Dryden Mike Dryden
February 10, 201214 yr I'd heard this place eats its youngAnd we ask anyone who sees a post doing that to use the REPORT system so that we can take care of it. Please... If you see a posted response that seems to be "eating the young", hit the REPORT button!

Till this day I still think about how immersive FU II & III were. Loved it! MSFS

Clearly that is the "closed" concept that is at issue than the simulator himself.
